Hopefully the interactive element doesn't cause delays

Does anyone know with any certainty that they are installing an interactive queue or just simply doing restoration?

No official word from Disney, but this is the most credible explanation of what's going on.

That was a good find NaCler ~ interesting to read. The only thing I can say is that while I don't enjoy standing in line for attractions, I don't feel the need to be stimulated every single second. I realize that the younger generation is being brought up to be entertained 24-7 (or at least while they are awake) but I think this might be overdoing it? Like several people have said, part of the fun of the queue of HM was reading the gravestones and making up stories to go along with them...Time will tell...

The idea of this is far more frightening than anything inside the HM itself...

I don't necessarily fully agree with this statement. I think it's more like Disney is out of the business of scaring people in the Magic Kingdom. Tower of Terror is still pretty darn scary and I'm not even talking about the drop part. Maybe the argument is because the ride is so big, so expensive, and so popular that it survived whereas Alien Encounter was modified, but then I'm not sure that explains the likes of Dinosaur and Expedition Everest at DAK. E:E I'm fairly sure came after the Stitch revamp, no? And aside from it being a roller coaster, that yeti figure would be pretty scary for younger kids I'd imagine and Dinosaur still scares/startles some of my friends in their mid-20's. I think Disney just felt that having a horror themed attraction INSIDE Magic Kingdom was not a good fit, which admittedly it probably wasn't as much as I'd like that kind of thing.

As far as the queue, I thought it was already discussed that the main impetus for the refurb was access for physically impaired or disabled guests to be able to experience more of the queue instead of getting wheeled into the exit and taken down a hall way to the load? I still highly doubt that anyone in WDI would ever be able to remove those headstones outright as its one of the classic homages to some of the greatest imagineers to ever live. That's be like getting rid of Main Street's windows. I don't necessarily disgree with them adding, it's usually the taking away part that concerns me and maybe i'm foolishly optimistic that they aren't going to scrap the tombstones. With that said, I find it a little ironic that some people have mentioned the Madame Leota tombstone as being something they like but expressing some displeasure over the prospect of the queue changing as that particular tombstone is rather newer. In fact, I remember when I saw it for the first time I thought it sort of cheapened the graveyard a bit :P Just an example as to how some people actually like change :hm_ghost:

MrToadWildRider - I agree, my statement was flat-out wrong. I think Alien Encounter would have survived longer if it was opened in the Hollywood Studios. Two main things killed that attraction: Installed in the wrong park and the re-rideabilty factor. Once you had it seen it, then it actually became more corny than scary (as mindflipper stated earlier) and return guests felt that they could skip it.

I can't see how changing the graveyard is going to make it any easier for physically imapaired/disabled guests. The problem for these guests are actually inside the attraction at the point where the elevators empty out into the queue for boarding the doombuggies. It's like a "cattle call" environment with a lot of pushing and shoving, and I would worry about anyone in a wheelchair trying to squeeze through that area. That's the reason I believe they have disabled guests board through the exit as opposed the entrance for the HM.

P.S. As for the Madame Leota tombstone, Leota did work on the HM and film the seance sequence. I think there should be one for "Paul" and "Thurl" myself.

I'm not saying it doesn't deserve to be there, I'm just saying that it was a late addition. I would say it was probably added sometime in the 2000's as an estimate whereas the others have probably been there since the attraction opened.

Hitchhiking BANNED in the Haunted Mansion???

Post by NaCler » Feb Thu 24, 2011 3:27 pm

I didn't want to create a new thread for this as I think what they are doing MAY tie in to the work they are doing in the queue, so here it is... Hitchhiking BANNED in Haunted Mansion?? ...not really, but I wanted to get everyones attention. :D

I'm seeing no problem with this. It doesn't have to Audio Animatronics to me. I like Constance much better than any previous Attic Bride they've had to date.

Interesting! I did see a short video clip of this on facebook. It will be interesting to see what happens when the renovations are done...
