Free Internet access

Post by Amy » Nov Mon 22, 2010 8:36 am

I've been doing a little looking and I wondered if anyone knew from past experience...where is it possible to have free internet access on WDW property? I figure the deluxe resorts probably have it included in the room fee, but does anyone know if it is available at the value resorts, or in the parks themselves? I'm aware that you can pay for the service in various areas but I am looking to keep costs down :? :D

From my experience, the resorts all charge on a 24 hour basis, you can pick and choose your day or days you want service. Most other hotels include internet service for free. We stay a lot at the Buena Vista Palace in Downtown Disney and the Dolphin at EPCOT, both of those locations have internet for free. And there is no wifi in the parks!

Dolphin, eh? I'm staying at the Swan, so hopefully it will be free there! :D

You would think they would throw it in with the room fee but last time I was there it was pay for use. I think all disney owned hotels only offer wifi/ethernet at a cost (same for europe).

There is this evil inverse relationship between the price of a hotel and the odds of having free wifi.

None in the parks :( That is sad. I guess my computer will just be a glorified storage spot for my photos and music files while we are gone. I might break down partway through the trip and have a day of internet just so I don't go crazy  How do the iphone apps work without wi-fi where you are entering attraction times?

You have an iphone? Have you considered using tethering?

I would imagine they work as always since iphones all have some form of wireless internet that you pay for. :D

Yup, unlimited data plan ~ duh to me! Can you direct me on where to look for how to tether?! I did actually think of that earlier but then dismissed it as I didn't know if it could be done...

What's the typical pricing for internet access at the hotels?

Internet is free for anybody in a DVC resort staying on points. For everybody else its $4.99 for the first 60 minutes or $9.95 for 24 contiguous hours.

What I have seen listed is $4.99/hour or $9.99 for a 24 hour period.

Y'know, free wifi is pretty much a basic amenity nowadays. Disney is way behind the curve on this; it's like charging for ice or running water.

To their credit, they do still give water for free if you ask for it!

This should help, you can always just google your specific setup too (phone type and operating system for laptop)
http://reviews.cnet.com/activate-tether ... ilbreaking

Some ways suggest jailbreaking others don't, jailbreaking isn't actually a bad thing (arguably it makes your phone run better, but Steve Jobs will hate you.

Arguably, free wifi isn't that common in hotels, especially ones that cater to buisness travelers. The only times I've ever heard of free wifi were at a holiday inn in Denver and small botquie hotels where they don't want to pay for the service that provides wifi for the entire hotel.

That's not so bad. I know if I would use it, it'd be towards the end of the night when I'd want to upload photos, lurk on here and such after returning from an exhausting day.
