That means you'd have to buy a new mug with each visit, I understand that's what they're probably going for, but can't they let us feel like we're getting a good deal by re-using mugs. It's bad enough that they switched the generic mugs where they are all the same. I used to really like the resort mugs, when they were specific to each resort. For some people that go twice in one year, I don't think you should have to buy twice.

I will find out in a little over two weeks I guess!

You could also think of it like a fast food place, coffee shop, etc. Just because you brought the cup back with you doesn't mean you get refills till the cup no longer functions. It is supposed to give you free refills for that visit. They probably should make that more clear when they sell them to you though.
I understand that, I just think after all the money spent, that's the least Disney could do. At least for those that visit twice in the same year, for a short time they did have mugs with the year on it. I enjoyed the specific resort mugs as a souvenier, the new ones, not so much.

If they do implement this new system, I def. won't be buying a mug!

I just went thru the pantry and we have an awful lot of those mugs.
I thin Goodwill is going to get a box.

I think we were even able to buy them at one time when we were not staying at a particular location.
So now I guess they will be strictly limited to hotel guests, maybe they always were, but I am almost certain I bought some eons ago and we were not on property for that trip (we had the dogs with us and wanted to keep them in the room rather than in the kennel.)

We've never bought the mugs. We always get mementos of some kind from every resort where we stay, but it's always something a little more "display-able" than a plastic mug. Of course, that's not to diss anyone who likes collecting plastic mugs... we all have our preferences. But we rarely drink sodas, so there's no draw for us to buy something like that as a memento. We'll usually get a sculpture of some kind, or even a "real" ceramic coffee mug or something....

Now if they ever start dispensing "ambience" from those machines.....

(for the newbies: see the "Subictionary" thread for the definition of "ambience" )

i still have our refillable "fantasia golf" mugs, so yes. it used to be you could purchase the mugs anywhere. each specific to the place purchased from (style/picture/logo-wise), yet w/ no limitations as to where they could be used. i know this because the fantasia golf counter person assured me i could use the mugs he sold us not only at our resort, but anywhere... even at certain locations in the parks. i have never had trouble.

Can you still use them anywhere in the park? Or just at the resorts?

for the last several trips now, we have had dining plan, which includes the drinks. so i do not know the answer to that one, as we no longer bring them with us. they used to be fillable at any quick service, beyond that i don't know. with all the changes being spoken of here, yet no one knows anything for sure, it's anybody's guess what the real policy is at this point. i'll just keep using 'em at my resort until something really changes, and then... i guess we'll burn that bridge when come to it?

I guess I'll have to do some digging. I was under the impression that they were just for the resort. But it would make sense if they were for the quick service places too. I'll see what I can find out...

True, I love my POFQ mug much more than our generic all the same mugs we are getting now. Last year I couldn't find a holographic plastic cup with the year on it. I was buying one each trip so Disney lost my $7.95 last year. Enough of life is generic, why does Disney perpetuate it. I will be half heartedly looking for a plastic tumbler with 2010 on it this year.

I was always under the impression that the mugs bought in the parks were only for the parks not the resorts. Interesting!

I can't imagine them implementing a bar code system for self serve soda. But if they did, could they also do something about the wasps? The drink refill station at Old Key West is outdoors and it always seemed like a gamble -- do I risk a wasp attack to get a coke?

I loved the mugs for the frozen cokes at Pop Century. We buy a new one each trip but I wish they still had the resort names on it or something, anything, to make them interesting.
