Tonight we have margaritas, I normally use fresh lime rather than sourmix and agave nectar rather than simple syrup and do it on the rocks which is why I don't have that atomic green look that so many people see.

I knew I forgot to post something, found it while updating my phone's music. This is warm caramel apple upside down cornmeal cake. Kind of an Americanized version of a tarte tatin... I should make one of those when winter kicks in sometime in February.

So it's basically fruity cornbread? Mmmm, think I'll pass on this one. Got any yummy looking main dishes?

On the rocks is the only way I like mine. My favorite recipe is: 1.5 oz. of a good quality silver Tequila, 1.5 oz. of Triple Sec, 1.5 oz. of fresh-squeezed lime juice, pinch of salt. Fill a Rocks glass with ice (I don't rim it with salt, but you can if you like it that way), put in all ingredients and stir until salt dissolves. Enjoy! Right now my favorite Tequila is El Jimador Silver. It's very robust, yet smooth. And it's very reasonably priced. You would think by the price that it's just another "cheap" Tequila, but it will pleasantly surprise you. Just as good quality as Patron or Tres Generaciones, but a lot less money, and I like the flavor better too.

By the way, the apple-upside-down-cornbread thing sounds delish.

Nope, it's a cake, cornbread is dense. Think of it like an apple upside down cake. :D

I actually don't use any GM in margaritas as it drowns out the flavor with the orange.

True, the Gran Marnier (I assume that's what you meant) has a stronger orange flavor than some. The Triple Sec I like to use (Rosita brand) is actually better for my recipe because it's lighter than GM so the orange doesn't overpower the rest, and it's also sweeter, which is why I don't use any other form of sweetener in mine. It comes out with the perfect balance of tang and sweetness... but not too sweet. I don't like mine too sweet. Pop in when you're in Houston and I'll make you one. :D

Ah, I actually don't like the orange flavor in this application so I stay away from GM, TS, Quantro, etc. for normal margaritas. If it's going to be some abomination of a margarita then it may get used.

"Abomination?!" Au contraire, mon cherie!
All the original classic margarita recipes use three basic ingredients: Tequila, Triple Sec (cointreau, etc.), and lime juice, with minor variations of proportion as well as ancillary ingredients such as salt and sugar. So a margarita with Triple Sec is a "true margarita." Anything else is the abomination!

I'm not talking about those as an abomination, I'm talking about the slurpiee machine, TGIFridays, things that are put out. Whomever thought that was a good idea should be set on fire.
