mickey quits chef mickey's?

Post by nicklesm17 » Sep Sat 18, 2010 5:44 am

well, here goes some of the fun at my 1st morning's adr. check this out http://www.wdwinfo.com/news/General_Dis ... Buffet.htm the kid's been talking about chef mickey coming to "serve" him b-fast since we landed this reservation (the hardest one next to le cellier's). "for sure" i said... "it's chef mickey's". thanks disney for making me a dishonest parent. they do something similar to this at tuskerhouse w/ donald duck outside. yes, they will take a pic w/ your camera, but only one. they are never happy about it, and the picture they take reflects it. it makes me mad w/ donald, but this is really a lousy, greedy move w/ mickey. i hope enough people complain, so that maybe they change this before my big morning.

This reflects MadEye's experience just recently. He said that Mickey was only outside the restaurant. I wonder if they just had too many problems circulating Mickey throughout the entire restaurant? I would hope they didn't change it simply to make more money on photos :( but sadly that could be the case.
Hopefully they will be gracious when using personal cameras to snap a photo for you!

He's still there. After you give your name for your reservation, you can jump in line to take a photo with Mickey or just sit and wait for your table to be ready. I recommend bringing a camera with you because if you don't, the only other photos you will have a chance to get will be over $30.

A few questions I have to ask about this: do they still take the photo that you can purchase in front of the big dish or does a photo with Mickey replace that. Secondly I recall that Donald didn't walk around the last time I was there. Will he now walk or does he stand around too.

Mickey is in front of the big plate and Donald is roaming around.

Good to know. We had thought about Chef Mickey's on our next trip for the Little Man. I wonder what the reason for the change is?

Of course that's why they did it.

Personally, I don't care too much about meeting Mickey. I'd rather eat at 1900 Park Fare, since it has "face" characters and they're more fun to interact with. But this is such a transparently obvious ploy to wring more money out of people (people who are already paying an arm and a leg just to be at WDW in the first place) that it makes me angry just on principle. It's exactly the kind of short-sighted, profiteering-at-the-expense-of-all-else mentality that's hurt the parks so much over the last fifteen years or so. It's evil, is what it is. Unlike Disneyland's audience, most visitors to WDW are for their first and only visit. The Disney brand is so well entrenched in people's minds that they could put laxatives in the pancakes and people would still come back to Chef Mickey's. It's really sad to see management actively taking advantage of peoples' goodwill.

Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money is always why stupid things are done at WDW. They always want more of it. This is why I hate the people in TDO. They are way too greedy and never focus on quality...

so it would seem that nobody likes their vacation "package" being itemized every stop you make, for additional disney income. i doubt this will change this current corporate great idea, but if enough people offer this kind of feedback, perhaps it will curb the next big idea. here's a link to let 'em know you don't appreciate this kind of thing: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/contact/ . all i can say is, walt would never go for stuff like this. he'd probably publicly chastise the genius that offered this, if not let him go.

As long as I can take my picture with Mickey and use my own camera (not paying $30 for a picture with the Mouse) I'm o.k. with it. It's been years since I've done Chef Mickey's and we're supposed to do this on our upcoming trip with the Mouse Couple. We're looking forward to it! I won't really have anything to compare this with from prior since it's been so long since I've last been there.

It does seem a little selfish of Disney though, I'm sure they had dollar signs in mind when they came up with this.

It isn't Disney, per se. More like the imbeciles at TDO wanting more money as usual.

That is very interesting that they moved Mickey to the plate. I think it is disgraceful that they are trying to make you pay $30 for the photo. I might not be as angry if they gave it to you on your photopass card, but I still think it is wrong.

As for what Future Guy posted, I have to agree 100%. There is so much more enjoyment that can be added when the characters are able to verbalize with you. The face characters are the perfect fit for character meals.

That is so disappointing. Chef Mickey's was one of the few places where you could see Mickey without standing in a huge line. My kids love Chef Mickey's. Now I'll think I'll skip over it. Shame on them! Especially for charging an outrageous amount for pictures. Doesn't Disney make enough money already?

Well, there's always the Garden Grill. They don't take a group photo of your party, so the only pictures are the ones you take with your camera.
