So I rode Space Mountain today, twice, and I must say, the music is cool. It also has some sound effects here and there. Only "complaint" and I use that term loosely, is you can tell where the speakers are and the music/effects get louder as you approach them and softer after you pass them.

Nice to hear a first hand review. Do you suppose that they will eventually add on-board speakers like the trains have in DL?MadEye wrote:So I rode Space Mountain today, twice, and I must say, the music is cool. Re: Space Mountain Music
Hmmmm, I wonder how involved it was to put the onboard audio in for the disneyland one since, if I recall, it didn't start with onboard music.
Re: Space Mountain Music
Putting onboard audio on the ride vehicles at WDW would require a total strengthening of the track. Another long rehab. If I remember, I've heard that DLs Space took 2 years. Is that correct? If so, I think it would take a little longer at WDW because of the two tracks used there. Rock N Rollercoaster is a true coaster as it was not built/created by Disney (Vekoma). It was already a very strong track.

Re: Space Mountain Music
The last rehab done took 2 years (possibly a little less) but that didn't bring onboard audio. That was just to build an exact replica of the track, and cosmetic changes as well as updates.MadEye wrote:Putting onboard audio on the ride vehicles at WDW would require a total strengthening of the track. I don't seem to see any listing for how long the rehab took to add audio in the 90's.

Re: Space Mountain Music
Does the track need to be stronger to support extra weight from speakers and other sound systems components?MadEye wrote:Putting onboard audio on the ride vehicles at WDW would require a total strengthening of the track. Re: Space Mountain Music
I would think so. First you would need a reciever (for lack of a better word) the speakers/amps (maybe)/sub woofers (maybe). That is a lot of extra weight. True, the rockets of Space Mountain are smaller than the limos of RnRC, but on a daily basis, that would put a lot of extra stress on the track that may or may not be strong enough. The fact that they opted for track side audio and not on-board audio says to me that the track isn't going to support the extra weight.Amy wrote:Does the track need to be stronger to support extra weight from speakers and other sound systems components?

Re: Space Mountain Music
That makes sense I guess. I just figured they went with the track side audio since the rockets don't already have speakers in them.MadEye wrote:I would think so. Re: Space Mountain Music
I was there a few weeks ago...and there was music playing while I was riding...so I guess that is what I heard. I really liked it and I think it added a lot to the ride. If the lines were shorter (which they were one morning) I would ride SM over and over and over again.
BTW...the track on the right feels faster while the track on the left takes a LOT more turns.

Re: Space Mountain Music
When they added music to the California track the weight increase might not have been as much an issue, what did need to be added to the tracks were sensors to play each section of the music. If you have ridden the ride a lot you will notice that the music will trail for a while before it hits the next section.
I am trying to recall, the seats in Florida don't go all the way up do they? As in your head is not surrounded by anything. The design of the cars may also impact the ability to have onboard audio as well.

Re: Space Mountain Music
One rocket/side could feel faster depending on the added weight of the riders but both sides go the same speed (29 mph) and there is nothing different between the two sides besides a few extra feet on one track.theBIGyowski wrote:BTW...the track on the right feels faster while the track on the left takes a LOT more turns.

Nope, the rockets are not up around your heads in WDW...Wizzard419 wrote:...I am trying to recall, the seats in Florida don't go all the way up do they? As in your head is not surrounded by anything. The design of the cars may also impact the ability to have onboard audio as well.
I knew the one track was longer but I thought there were some differences as far as turns and things. Are the tracks only different in DL?MadEye wrote:One rocket/side could feel faster depending on the added weight of the riders but both sides go the same speed (29 mph) and there is nothing different between the two sides besides a few extra feet on one track.theBIGyowski wrote:BTW...the track on the right feels faster while the track on the left takes a LOT more turns.
