I remember the last time I was on DLR's version it had some new effects that hadn't been there before, and besides the addition of the POTC film characters. In the scene with the Wicked Wench, there's the two halves of the fort area you pass in between. One half used to be dark, but then they added a film projection to it to make it look like it was shadows being casted by fire showing the fort soldiers fighting the pirates. I thought this was a cool addition. Like the POTC film characters addition, it was a modification that did not change the over-all ride storyline.

That is neat! I don't think I ever noticed those before...
It takes a while sometimes to catch them but you have to look closely before you go towards the first drop.

I am a WDW girl but I would LOVE to see the Disneyland Pirates! I have always heard that it is so much better.

Yes. He is in there 3 times. A little after the dunking of Carlos (at least I think thats his name). In a barrel behind the fat pirate with the treasure map and key. And at the end in the treasure room just before unload. For a while, he was broken and looked dead in the treasure room...

While that could be the case but it was creepy to hear him talking and his head bent more than 90 degrees from the rest of his body...

The DL version has two drops because the show building is on the other side of the berm and the boats need to get under the train tracks. At WDW, the train is higher up at that point so only one drop is needed. Looking on Google Maps, the two show buildings look to be about the same size so I don't see why the WDW version is so much shorter.

Also with the WDW version you will notice that the Drop is shorter as well. If I remember, I timed them years ago, the DL drop is 8-9 seconds and the WDW drop is 4-5 seconds. If you remember the queue for WDW actually drops down lower, that is why the one drop is shorter and that there is one drop. Instead of making the ride drop and the need for a lift at the end they opted to make the queue lower.

Good point. Plus a large chunk of the inside-the-tracks part of the wdw version is taken up by the queue while 90% of the DL version is outdoors.

It's so hard to explain to people that have never been to the Disneyland one what it looks like. I LOVE that I can sit in the ride and eat and look at all the stars...in the middle of lunch time.
