When a crowd is packed into a Disney bus after illuminations, some "ripeness" can be found in the air.mindflipper wrote:Been a long time since I've been to WDW in the summer - can anyone tell me if one of the "Disney Smells" that they detect is the sweaty odor of other tourists perspiring heavily in all that heat and humidity?![]()

All Splash memories are happy memories, who doesn't smile when they round the bend and see that rockin' riverboat?! So, I'll take it as a good smell. Don't know why that popped into my head tonight, but there it was...maybe it is all this muggy weather we are havingJacca5660 wrote:If it triggers a memory it is.Amy wrote:There is that musty smell on the Splash Mountain logs...not sure that is a good Disney smell though...

The smell (and the look on people's faces) when they spray the skunk smell in Journey To Imagination, haha!!
But my real answer is the oranges you smell on the Soarin' ride.

Re: Disney "Smells"
Ok, here's a smell I noticed the other day. We usually come home with a large quantity of soaps from the Disney hotels, and I opened one of the bath soaps from 2008 recently. It smells a lot like Coppertone suntan lotion, which also reminds me of Florida. I don't know what scent it is, but it's very distinctive (using Coppertone suntan lotion always puts me in a good mood because of the memories associated with it). I wonder if that's intentional?
Anyway, you know you're ready for a trip to Disney when your supply of Disney soaps is running low! (Although I still have soap from our Honeymoon at the Grand Floridian in 2001, I'll probably never use that!).

I love the smell of the funnel cakes, when walking from the hub to liberty square at Disneyworld. I also, always liked the way the pirates of the caribbean smells as soon as you get inside the tunnel.

-The smell of the water spray on any boat ride that has a small drop, especially PotC and Maelstrom. As soon as you enter that first "cave" you know what you're getting into! Also, the smell of the spray in the air from the Fantasmic water screens. And the Fountain of Nations.
-The slightly musty smell of the loading room for Haunted Mansion. Having the Ghost Host lower my safety bar is always one of my favorite moments.
-Main Street and the walk out of the Studios at night. I'm not sure what is different from the smell during the day (maybe the night air?) but it always smells like hundreds of people going away with a day well-spent.
-Any smell coming out of the Land pavilion.
-The ToT boiler room.
-Almost any of the tree-covered walkways in Animal Kingdom. The air is so clean and fresh in that park!
-It's hard to describe the smell of the Epcot utilidors but those bring back memories too. Kinda stuffy and musty with the occasional scent of food from the restaurants above. Sometimes there was a strange smell of cheese in the stairway to Character Spot/Fountainview Ice Cream and for the life of us we couldn't figure out where it was coming from.
Just from the sheer amount of time I spent working around it, I'm pretty attached to the smell of sweaty vinyl and raffia from Festival of the Lion King. Stiltwalkers in particular. I'm kind of weird.

I find it hilarious that so many people are saying 'water'. I thought I was weird or something for loving that smell.. glad to see many others agree!
The odd odor of the Monorail.
Dark rides. I love, love, love their smell.
Oh, and the delicious smell of the cafeteria styled restaurants. Cosmic Ray's, value resorts, etc. Mmmm.

Re: Disney "Smells"
Ok, here's one that involves both smells and sounds. In the building where I work, there's a garden area with some trees and a few large waterfall fountains. It's nice to go there in the middle of winter to take a break when you can't go outside. Anyway, there's a chlorine smell from the fountains that, along with the sound of falling water, reminds me of being in Disneyworld, perhaps riding Pirates of the Carribean, or taking a break watching the ducks splash around in the fountain near the Tiki Room. Like I said, it's a nice place for a break since it brings back fond memories.

I really the miss the smell of the Land Pavilion when they had the balloons/cone shaped fountain. I can't explain what it smelled like, maybe almost like fettuccini alfredo or something, but I always loved that smell and associated it with Living with the Land which I adore. I always felt like the Grand Canyon Concourse would have that smell too when the monorail opened its doors at the station. Maybe it was a food they served at Chef Mickey's and the Land?
The Alien scene (as I'm sure I've mentioned at least once on this thread) is still one of my most vivid memories. Whenever I smell that sort of industrial/machiney smell I'm like "Smells like Alien!"
I really miss the rose smell Figment USED to spray in the REAL Journey Into Imagination. The one where he was painting and the room would go from B&W to colorful. He was like holding a pot or something and it was spilling out into a pool and it smelled vividly of roses. My ex-girlfriend used to wear a lotion from Bath & Body Works that smelled exactly the same. I should buy some of it and cover my old Figment doll in it.
