Anyone going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party?

Post by disneylizzy » Jul Mon 12, 2010 2:52 pm

We're planning on going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party in October. I fell in love with it last year and just had to do a return trip for the party this year. We'll be staying at Pop either the week of Halloween (25th) or the week before that (18th).

Is anyone else here going to the party?

Nope. We love the Christmas lights so if we make it this year, we are going in December. Did you wear a costume last year? Got costume plans this year?

Have you done the Christmas party then? We did it last year and will be back.

I went with some girlfriends last year & we didn't dress up.

This year I am torn between doing Tinkerbell (easy costume, will be comfy if it's hot) or one of the characters from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (Alice, White Queen, Red Queen - tough costumes and possibly not so comfy for hot evenings)

The Alice costumes would be more unique too....so I'm waffling back and forth. What do you guys think?

My mother (god bless her!) make some (or all) of my costume so the level of difficulty is kinda important b/c I don't want her to feel overwhelmed.

We have been for the Christmas party (I think). The event we went to was the one on the backlot streets of MGM...er Hollywood Studios...where they had hot cocoa and "snow" and pictures with characters. It was fun, but drinking cocoa when the temperature was in the 80's and soapy snow was a stretch for us northerners...It was fun watching children that obviously live in the snow belt ooh and ahh over the "flakes"!
Mmm, as far as your costume, you should probably check with your seamstress, she might have some suggestions and that is nice of you not to want your Mom to be overwhelmed...an Alice costume could still probably be pretty comfortable in hot weather. I think you're right that the Alice in Wonderland characters would be a little more unique.

Nope! The Very Merry Christmas Party is at Magic Kingdom and it's a separate ticketed event. The one you've been to is the Osborne Family Lights which is also amazing.

The Christmas Party is on select nights in Nov and Dec. They shut down the park early for everyone except those who have tickets to the party so there is little to no wait for rides. There is a special parade & fireworks show, special character greetings, dance parties, a stage show plus free cocoa & cookies.

It can get a little expensive if you have a large group that you're going with, but it's an extra special experience if it sounds good to you.

Here is some more info on it:

Probably going to be quite a few Tinks walking around and I think Alice and White Queen would look too plain. I vote for the Red Queen... I would love to see how you make the body look smaller than the head. Also, you could carry a stuffed pig around.

I have been to the Christmas Party and probably wouldn't do it again. It was nice once, but I didn't get the "have to make this an annual thing" feel from it. I think the DHS Osbourne Lights are a much better experience and it's included with admission to DHS. I would love to check out the Halloween party but we never really seem to go in October. :(

Thanks for the input! Yeah, I figure that tinkerbell will be a common costume.
The only thing about the red queen is that I dont' know if I can make a Florida-weather-friendly costume for the red queen.... I'll let you guys know what I decide!

The Halloween Party really is fun. I love the parties for the decor/lights/parade/fireworks so they are definitely worth it to me.
