Fantasyland Expansion

Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
I am back from the MK and I tried a few places to see if I could see anything going on with the expansion. Here's the roundup: Barnstormer won't give a good shot of anything clear except a port-o-potty. TTA had too many trees in the way and I didn't even try the Speedway because it was so much lower than TTA. You can see some stuff from the train behind Fantasyland but since it is all ground work and nothing has gone verticle yet, there is nothing to see except a bunch of dump trucks, backhoes, bulldozers, etc. That's it in a nutshell. Good luck to anyone else who tries to get a good shot.

Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
Thanks for the information MadEye. I am hopeful that at least one of these locations can provide us with a good vantage point once the vertical construction starts.

I expect those castles will be miniatures - much like the Eiffel Tower in France Pavillion, EPCOT.NaCler wrote:I hope so Len... I was amazed at how many projects were going on at the same time. Main Street looks terrible with all the cloth facades that are up.
and to stay on topic... According to the walls that are up, they are building 2 more castles. Is that correct? Beast's Castle and Prince Eric's for the Little Mermaid ride???
Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
Of course they will be smaller than Cinderella Castle, but they should be a lot bigger than the buildings for the Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty M&G. Hopefully they are smart and use forced perspective to make them look a lot bigger than they really are. We'll see in a few years.mindflipper wrote:I expect those castles will be miniatures - much like the Eiffel Tower in France Pavillion, EPCOT.NaCler wrote:I hope so Len... Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
When we were there in May '09 we were shocked at how many cloth fronts were up on Main St. It does look tacky! I was upset b/c it ruined my Main St. experience.NaCler wrote:I hope so Len... And to stay on topic...I hope the new castles do not over power the real Castle in any way shape or form?! I don't think they would do that, or would they?
Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
At least those cloth fronts weren't just walls with scaffolding in view of guests. I'd rather it be now before the 40th birthday of WDW than during.boilerbabe wrote:When we were there in May '09 we were shocked at how many cloth fronts were up on Main St. It does look tacky! And no, the new castles will not over power Cinderella Castle in any way. They will both be in the back of Fantasyland and Eric's castle will have the Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella buildings between it and Cinderella Castle.

Thanks for trying MadEye ~ that was nice of you to look for us poor distance-ly challenged folks!MadEye wrote:I am back from the MK and I tried a few places to see if I could see anything going on with the expansion. I am okay with the painted cloth-covered scaffolds because to me that means necessary renovations are going underneath that will allow these buildings to continue on into the future.

Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
It's just a facade refurbishment that has been going on for a while. There were a couple of those up last year over the summer. Remember, the buildings all look like the soundstages at DHS from behind the scenes.

I don't mind one or two of those cloth facades, but when practically every other building has one, I find it to ruin my Main St. experience.

Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
Well, you have to think about it, but in a few years WDW MK will be 50 years old - those buildings on Main Street are getting pretty old by now...
Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
I prefer these over the walls they usually put up. At least it looks... cleaner. To me, anyway.mindflipper wrote:I am okay with the painted cloth-covered scaffolds because to me that means necessary renovations are going underneath that will allow these buildings to continue on into the future.

Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
You might be able to see some of the construction on the railroad, as the train takes you behind Fantasyland. When we were there last month I saw some heavy equipment clearing the land in that area.
Re: Fantasyland Expansion...
From what I saw from the train, all you will be able to see is the backside of the Be Our Guest (Beauty and The Beast) Restaurant and Gaston's Tavern.Future Guy wrote:You might be able to see some of the construction on the railroad, as the train takes you behind Fantasyland.
