"Other" Parks

Post by theBIGyowski » Jun Thu 03, 2010 8:47 am

So my fiance and I are really getting geared up for our honeymoon in WDW later this year. Why is it that half of the people we talk to about it tell us all of the other things in central Florida we should do while we are down there? We are going to Disney World! We don't want to see Harry Potter! We don't want to go to Tampa! We're going to bust our tails just trying to do as much as we can there in WDW since we'll only have 6 days.

I just don't understand it. Am I different? When I go down to WDW that is where I want to be. I don't want to leave the parks and see other things.

Same here---same here.
When I tell people at work they always tell me---your kids are past Disney, you need to try Universal.
NEGATIVE!!
They just don't "get it."
I'm almost 40 and I haven't outgrown Disney!

You're not different at all, but some of us have familial obligations or other reasons to be outside of the parks. We have several relatives in the Tampa area for instance, so it's not unusual for us to fly into Tampa for a day, head over to Disney for the rest of the week and the fly out of Orlando. Our next trip will be exclusively devoted to Disney tho:)!

You're not different! DH and I don't want to leave Disney property once we're there. There is so much to do at Disney and we're there only for a set amt. of days, we need as much Disney time as possible! Some people just don't seem to understand that! Even if we have a non-park day, then you want to enjoy your resort, especially when you stay on property. It's part of the vacation!

We enjoy Disney but I can also see where some people think of it as just one small part of a trip to Florida. Just smile, nod, and say thank you :D knowing that you are going to squeeze every last ounce of fun out of Disney while you're there...

Some trips we plan extra days just to stay at the resort!

All kidding aside, the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa is worth a visit if you happen to be in the Tampa area.

When I was in college in Tampa, I used to go to the Lowry Park Zoo all the time. It's one of three favorite places in Tampa Bay Area (Besides Busch Gardens), Lowry Zoo, Ybor city (Gotta love anyplace that someone will had you a free freshly rolled cigar), and Strawpark (I don't even know if it's still called that, this was 20+ years ago). I have to put one more Lettuce Lake.

I have no problem going other places...but I am paying for park tickets for every day we're there...so I am not going to pay for admission somewhere else on top of that. Plus...it's our honeymoon. We don't want to be driving around going to all of these other places. We want to be taken care of...and the Mouse will do that for us!

Well for a Honeymoon I don't think I would even really be planning much times at the parks as much as just relaxing; though admittedly I'd probably go elsewhere in the world (the actual world, not WDW ;) ) for that. But in terms of casual trips to WDW I always try to squeeze at least one day in for UO/IoA. IoA in particular is pretty awesome. I'd have to imagine it's only going to improve with all the money they're dumping into WWoHP even though i'm not really a Potter fan it looks pretty amazing.

To each their own though :)
