Trust me it is not cheap even to fly down the coast. So far we have the return flight that we got for cheap and are still waiting for some prices to drop on our flight going there. I am checking a couple of times a day. Not to mention the baggage fees that most airlines charge now. It really takes away a lot for a family of four.MmeLeota wrote:Considering that we're across the country, we fly. However, it ain't cheap to do so...even on Southwest

The best thing about living so close: No baggage to worry about. Unless I buy something in the parks that is.

Weirdness is compatible with ours,
We join up with them and fall in
Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”

Yep! Same here...the last time we went, we had family living/working there so we saved a bunch that way. No hotel/park ticket costs...woo hoo!Amy wrote:That has been one of the biggest reasons we haven't gone in so long ~ too expensive to fly, and now with the extra fees as Len mentioned - whew! It does beat 20-some hours in the car though...I think
But alas, they don't live there anymore, so we're on our own. We have never stayed on property, so we're looking forward to that whenever we get to go.

I don't know, I wouldn't mind a car drive. It depends on who you go with, though, so I don't blame those that would rather forgo the car drive.Amy wrote:That has been one of the biggest reasons we haven't gone in so long ~ too expensive to fly, and now with the extra fees as Len mentioned - whew! A 12-hour drive is a walk-in-the-park! I wish! Driving from NE Ohio can take up to 20 hours depending of traffic and the time of the year. I prefer to take I-75 down versus the turnpike as it is less turning through the mountains and less stomach-churning. Even though, allegedly, it is 100 miles further that way it takes less time because of higher speeds allowed through Georgia. Our first day out driving is usually around 12 hours to get us south of Atlanta or, hopefully, to Macon. Then the shorter drive the following day so we can get checked-in and right to the parks!AKLRULZ wrote:We typically fly but have driven a couple of times - 12 hours to get there from where we live by driving though!

I think all but one of my trips we have driven. When I was a kid, we had a caravan of vans and motorhomes going down to Fort Wilderness and half the fun was the 18 hour trip. Now it's just my DH, me and our two DSs but we still drive. Our boys are really good with long trips in the car, we've driven from Indy to NYC, and FL several times without problems. This year, we are leaving in the early evening and driving all night. My DH works on 3rd shift so he said he might as well drive all night while the kids and I sleep and then I'll take over at dawn..ish.

Yep! And I told him that if he needs a little more sleep once we check in he can stay in the room while I take the kids to the pool because we aren't doing anything the first day except DTD.Amy wrote:Perfect, he can then sleep when you take over, and since he works 3rd shift, he'll be rarin' to go once y'all get thereLITTLEBIT wrote:I think all but one of my trips we have driven.
