If you could meet a Disney Legend...

Movies, TV, music, and more. Here's the place to talk about anything Disney outside of the parks.

I think everyone forgets that Eisner did in fact bring the company back from the brink and got it back on track. The problem was, as Eisner enjoyed his successes, the delusion of the midas touch crept in and he thought whatever he did was going to create a gold mine. Did you ever see how much they lost on the "go network"? And then how much they lost on the whole Michael Orvitz fiasco? And Katzenberg's departure wasn't cheap either. It would have been amazing to see what the company could have done if they had paid all out that money to dig out of these stupid mistakes. Eisner did do some good for Disney in the beginning, but he did some real bone-headed mistakes in the end. I was more than happy to vote against him (not that my small amount of stock would do anything - it was the thought that counts) when Roy Disney waged war against Eisner.

Agree with mindflipper. My grandmother owned Disney stock years ago and I used to read the stuff she got in the mail when I would visit. (Even if it was boring as all get-out...it was Disney) It was obvious that Disney (under Eisner) was living and dying by the sword. The sword was making money. They desperately needed money when Eisner was promoted to the top. He delivered and Disney enjoyed animation and theme park success it hadn't seen in ages. Then, what to do when you are on top? Eisner decided to invest in other things that could possibly make money...and the core principles of the Disney Corporation were neglected.

So...what started out as a great thing...later turned into a destructive thing. And we all know the rest of the story.

Eisner was kept in check as long as Frank Wells was alive.... after his helicopter crash... the end began for Eisner

As for who I'd love to have met when he was still with us...

Have you ever read any of the theories about Frank Wells crash? I've noticed that when people here have written about Eisner's good years they fail to mention that it was Frank Wells that was actually the person making the smart decisions!

After Wells was killed Eisner tried to make himself a Media Mogul at all cost! He had no regard for Disney or it's core values!! Eisner said when he was put in charge that he had never been to a Disney park and didn't even like Mickey Mouse. Some of what has been written here is revisionist history!!

Ditto on this one.

I got to meet Don "Ducky" Williams on a disney cruise about a month ago. He's a disney artist. The story of how he got to work for disney is pretty amazing.
