I don't know that the more expensive peds are any more accurate than the less expensive ones - much like Dr. Ravenscroft's cereal box one proves. You do walk a lot in the parks but you also end up standing in line a lot and sitting through attractions so you aren't burning quite as many calories as you might be envisioning - especially if you are partaking in the delightful array of foods available at every turn! But it is much nicer to have the Disney scenery all around as you are walking, instead of snarling dogs, burning leaves, and other obstacles in your walking path

I know this an older post but I've been wearing a pedometer for a challenge at work and it's an Omni Pedometer and it's VERY accurate. You have to be walking for at least 4 seconds for the steps to count. I don't see how it would register on rides though. Maybe I'm just not thinking clearly. LOL

Well, most pedometers have a mechanism inside of them that counts the steps as it jostles side to side with your stride, so on rides, it might take that motion to be steps...and voila 30000 steps on Space Mountain alone!

Most peds work using an internal pendulum to measure steps. That internal pendulum can be also put into motion depending upon which rides you're on at WDW. However, there are some more expensive ones that are not pendulum based. Check the manual that came with your pedometer to find out how it works.

My parents have used a pedometer and I believe they walked about 15 miles in one full day. Of course, they didn't have kids with them and they did a lot of walking around world showcase. A great way to work off the delicious food from the dining plan!

The most I have ever done in a day was about 20 miles but it's usually more like 15 miles. I get up at 4:30 a.m. and walk around the resort before we head to the parks, then we walk around a lot looking for the shortest lines. Definately rather walk then stand in line! I take mine off and hide near the exit of the rides on the days that I wear it, so it stays accurate not including bumps and lift hills.

I get a full body workout...pushing hubby in a wheelchair through the park. (haven't done this in WDW yet, we'll see what happens) So, I know I'm working off calories like crazy!

Oh my gosh, you better start doing strength training now - WDW is sooooo much bigger than DL! I remember the first time Mom and I went to DL, we would look at the map, walk a few feet and look at each other in awe at how fast we moved between attractions and lands!

On one of our trips to WDW my friend wore her pedometer. We averaged 6 - 7 miles a day. Between the heat and the walking we sure were tired by the end of the day.

I need to find one to buy instead of using one on my iPod that will drain the battery. I want to try this sometime.

I have a pedometer I got thru work for a steps challenge that records steps, calories or miles which you hook up to the computer and download that is pretty accurate. My DS12 wore it for Cross Country and their warm up run was 1 mile and it registered at .97 miles. It has a larger clip then most pedometers I've seen so it doesn't seem to flop as much as others. I've also attached to the side of my tennis shoe and it still keeps pretty accurate record. I plan to take it with us in October.

Keep us updated as to it's accuracy while you are there. If it seems really good maybe I'll need to invest in one of the same brands that you have...goodness knows I won't notice one more piece of technology attached to my body...camera - check, digital recorder - check, iphone - check...

Sure thing. For me, I know it's bad when I have several pieces of technology on me and I know they aren't all mine but since I'm Mom, I end up with everything.

She with the most pockets and receptacles wins the lottery of keeping track of everything :D I don't have anyone else to blame, all my junk is...mine...although I do try to pawn stuff off on my Mom occasionally :?

If I can find a decent pedometer application on my iPod, I could try it at DLR and WDW whenever I go. That's my goal.
