Darn. Those weather conditions would have been PERFECT for me
I bet it is 80 degrees and sunny next year.
Congratulations to all who took part.

Hi! My husband and I are doing the Princess 5K in just under two weeks. It's our first race ever. I'm excited, but also really nervous since we've not trained like we should have since one or the other of us has been really sick for the past 2 - 3 weeks. I keep reminding myself that it's not toooooooo far and that we'll be fine once we're there, but I'm nervous still!
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

I get nervous before every race (I'm still not sure why
). My wife will be there and running the Princess Half-Marathon the same weekend. Her Mom will be there with her and cheering her on.
I ran my first race at Disney last fall (the last ever Tower of Terror 13K race). They certainly know how to make a race fun! I know you will enjoy your race.

Thanks! I think I'd feel more confident if I could have "trained", but can't control being sick! I'll just have to make do with these last few days and walk as much as I need to.

If you have trained at all you will be fine. I ran my first 5K last weekend not training and the run was around a park (not very fun). We made it and had fun I can't wait to run at disney!! I think it will make the run so much better.Polynesian Princess wrote:Hi! My husband and I are doing the Princess 5K in just under two weeks. It's our first race ever. Well I've never been a runner at all. Don't even know what possessed me to sign up for this at all.Mamabaminjamin wrote:If you have trained at all you will be fine. I'm no expert on this, but I think they run the races for a few years and usually retire them to have different races. I would think it's to make it more interesting for returning runners.Mamabaminjamin wrote:Why are they not having another TOT I was looking for info on it.

I'm not sure why they got rid of this one? It was AWESOME! We ran the inaugral one in '07. They've now changed the ToT run over to the Food and Wine 1/2 marathon. You can do it as a relay if you'd like or run the full 1/2 and it's run at night.Mamabaminjamin wrote:Why are they not having another TOT I was looking for info on it.withspirit wrote: I ran my first race at Disney last fall (the last ever Tower of Terror 13K race). I'm a veteran to road racing/running, it's my passion in life and there is no running experience like Disney!!!! Their finisher medals are the best I've ever seen! We ran the 1/2 in '05 and that is my most fav. medal, my big 'ol Donald.
You'll be fine Poly Princess, just run/walk and ENJOY!

I got sick exactly 2 weeks before the 2010 Half-Marathon. A week before the race I begged a doc-in-the-box for help (he happened to be a runner). Even though I didn't seem to have any "reserve power" during the race, I finished and got a medal in less than the maximum time.Polynesian Princess wrote:Thanks! You'll do fine, and you will enjoy the race - trust me. This seems to be the stuff that makes the best "Race Reports" (hint - hint

I have decided that's the stuff all runners seem to go through. My wife (see the earlier posts in this thread) has been going through a health challenge which has flared up just in time for the Princess Half Marathon. She will be there when you are (I can't get off work right now). She has been very inspiring to me, to see all she has gone through just to run a few races every year, not to mention years of training.
I just overheard her telling her son that running made her feel better and improved her mood (even with all her challenges!).
I think that is why we do this.
