Hmmmm, the expression on that cat's face seems to say, "I'm soooooo comfy. Don't you even think about sitting in MY chair!"

Finally I can post my cat. Her name is Hershey. She was abandoned at 8 months old in a box during a thunderstorm. Seven years later, she is spoiled rotten! We recently found out she has diabetes :( It's a pain to get the right food and try to get her to take the shots.

It is a major production every month to get the Revolution on my cat at the back of the neck (she will not go quietly and calmly for this). A few months ago I had to put an ointment in her eye for infection, and she let me know for days I was on her "sh*t-list" for it - but to give her shot?!? No way! I would have to go the emergencies for stitches for that!

LOL MmeLeota, yes they can be very possessive :D luckily for me, it's just Precious and I. Though when my BF comes over, she is like, who is that you are holding hands with, this is NOT acceptable so she will wiggle her way in between us and onto my lap :D he thinks it's quite funny :P

I'm not her pet, but nor does my cat consider herself a "pet". She considers herself an equal family member, and wants to be considered in family decisions - like new furniture. She didn't like the old love seat going... <- that resembles the expression I got when the delivery van carted it off...

Here is a picture of my Demeter, who is now living with my parents because I developed a severe allergy to cats.

And because I think it is terribly unfair that our dogs are not included, here is a picture of Bugg as a puppy.

And here is Bugg and Ginger, the source of my screen name.

So the mystery of the screen name is solved! I wondered about that...they are so adorable!

Demeter (CATS reference?) reminds me a bit of my Louise...they share the same pose (big belly and all). There are times where she will lay on her back with her paws up as if she were posing. We say she's posing for Playcat magazine

In addition to being the pets of the house, we are also the wait staff.

Mind, I wish we were treated as equal family members in our household, but the girls rule and become quite displeased if we make a big decision (like new furniture) without their consent! We have to go to bed when they say so and we get the third degree if we come home late or if we have been gone a couple of days. (and I thought DH & I had each moved out of our parents' houses :) )

MmeLeota, I also get the third degree if I come home late, and I am expected to make up for it when I do. I tell the cat what time we're going to bed. However, she determines when we get up. She always wakes me up about ten minutes or so before the alarm goes off and expects to rubbed/scratched. I can't figure out how she can tell when it's time for the alarm to go off, but she can also tell somehow when its the weekend too. It's one of the many things that makes her priceless.

Thanks, Jacca5660, but I bet there lots of kittens locally that would like to move in...

agingerbugg, I have always seen black poodles and white poodles (in fact, almost every dog in my neighborhood is black or white poodles - but never yet a BROWN poodle! Ginger is beautiful dog! What kind of personality?

Telling this one tale in multiple parts:

PART FOUR: THE TAMING OF THE FEW

My brother and his GF rented me their third bedroom for $100 a month. It was a good deal, because he was also doing the night shift for me in feeding and giving water to the cats. In fact, sometimes he would sit in there with them and pet the mother cat (especially on the 4th of July TG!). As part of the taming process, the kittens would spend time in the cages so they would not be so wild:

Image
Image

With the help of the cat adoption agency - BeBe & Goliath - I got all the cats spayed/fixed and their shots at a local NPF vet service called First Coast No More Homeless Pets. I found out there that all the kittens except Bobtail were females. Bobtail was the only male. "If it has a tail, its a female" was the motto of this litter. As my brother's house was less than 10 minutes from my work, I did the day shift: I would take an extended lunch hour. First thing was to pet and love them:

Image

While it took a while to get through to Tiger...

Image

...Bobtail was the easiest to get through - just a few days in fact! Next I would let them out to run free while I cleaned out their cages:

Image

Heckle loved to run and play...

Image

...while Jeckle was distant. How can you tell the two apart? By sight, the triangular white patch of fur under their chin. Heckle's patch is half the size of Jeckle. By personality, Heckle is outgoing while Jeckle is extremely shy. Jeckle can calm down and enjoyed being scractched and loved, while Heckle couldn't sit still while being rubbed/scratched.

Image

This is a great picture of Bobtail. You can see his little stubbed tail! Cats being born with a bobtail are very rare I'm told!

Image

Tiger was my hard case. This cat had a lot of bad attitude. My brother tried to pick her up and scratched him all over his hands! I followed some advice on a website to get through to her by "bathing" her. I would wet my finger and pet her with the wet finger. By doing this, I would be mimicking the cleaning process of her mother, and it would establish a bond between us. It did work, but with limited success: Tiger would tolerate me, but no one else. Also, if Tiger got out of hand, I had her mother there always to give swift discipline:

Image

After a few weeks, while I was having success with Bobtail and Heckle, Tiger was still too agressive and Jeckle far too timid and shy...

to be continued
