I don't know about you but I would rather put up with annoying music than be upside down for two hours. Just think the pressure that builds up in your head from the blood rushing in that direction. As far as getting perks, I am sure they did. However, it is something that should have not lasted so long if Disney had taken the proper steps and precautions in the first place.imaginationcelebration wrote:What's the big deal, they probably just got the longest ride in the history of Epcot, not to mention some sort of perks I'm sure. Not many can say they were on a ride at Disney that lasted longer than the wait in line. Now being stuck for 2hrs in It's a Small World, that's a BIG DEAL! I know, I know...it's about the training. As soon as they get sued for it they'll change their procedure.
Sum of All Thrills no evac plan or training!

So is it the bean counters or lack of quality engineers you are pointing to, or dare I say BOTH!I swear, I see stuff from architects and engineers these days that makes me wonder how they got through college, or whether they got their seals from a bubble-gum machine. Sad.

You spoke to a first responder? Or you read an article that has apparently been pulled that alleged to quote a first responder? If it's the former then okay I would believe you, but if it's the latter then it's just hearsay and suspect at best considering the article has apparently been pulled by the Sentinel (which is odd without some sort of note from the editor for the retraction... oh well).Jacca5660 wrote:One of my sources was an actual First Responder!
They were stuck upsides down for over 2 hours. What is the hard part that some are not understanding. The button that releases the arm doesn't work!
What I don't understand is why first responders would just wait for 2 hours before taking action. It does not take that long to drive emergency vehicles to EPCOT... even if they drove all the way from Orlando, though I'm sure Reedy Creek is more than well equipped to handle emergencies such as this. If the people were trapped upside down for 2 hours they would probably pass out and it would be an emergency situation warranting drastic action i.e. cutting them out of the ride. So what I find hard to understand is if true as reported to be reported, why would it take so long to get these people out? Was there any mention as to any kind of obstacle preventing them from using power tools to cut them out? Were they not actually upside down? Was it less than 2 hours? There's a lot of really questionable information as provided here.
And I guess maybe my biggest question is if the ride physically/mechanically broke down and the release did not work and the individuals were not cut out of the attraction- how was the situation resolved?
So with all these questions I guess my biggest question is why don't you understand why I am having a hard time understanding?

In this article about the ride itself there is part about halfway down that reads......
"Now it's time to board. Attached to a significantly impressive robot arm are two seats. After you're seated, the cast member lowers a large apparatus over your head. While doing so you are told that there is an emergency stop button located between you. If at any time the ride becomes too intense, you can slap your hand down on this knob and the ride will immediately stop."
I'm wondering if that is what happened in this case. Further, I would find it hard to believe to if the cast member knows that there is an emergency stop button for the riders to push, that there isn't an SOP on what to do in that case. I don't doubt that the procedure may not have worked or may have been unsuccessful or even not carried out properly by the CM but I have some doubt that there was no procedure in place.

I'm personal lifelong friends with this person. Disney waited a long time before calling anybody. They thought it was going to be a quick fix like it was supposed to be.Mr.ToadWildRider wrote:You spoke to a first responder? Kcrats, believe what you feel you must. The ride stopped and did not function like it was a made to do. I don't why, I just know it happened. I have and would trust this source with my life!

I am not questioning your source. I believe that the ride stopped abruptly and I believe that a significant amount of time passed before anyone aws called.Jacca5660 wrote:Kcrats, believe what you feel you must. What I am questioning is that there is no SOP in place for when the ride stops unexpectedly whether by the guest or some mechanical issue. I think that there is one but that it wasn't followed for whatever reason.

Both. One begets the other, and it becomes a vicious circle. It's symptomatic of society as a whole today, actually, thanks to our schools being turned into PC indoctrination centers instead of actual learning centers. But let's not go there.... I don't want to offend anyone.99Soulz wrote: So is it the bean counters or lack of quality engineers you are pointing to, or dare I say BOTH!

I've been stuck on It's a Small World before. Sitting in the stopped boat for 20 minutes caused the song to be burned in my mind for hours after I got out. Think about it, how long do you hear the song in your head after a normal trip through? It's torture I tell ya. I'll take a headrush over the headache of It's a Small World going through your head long after you've gotten off the ride any day. Not that I wish either event on myself or anyone else.Len90 wrote:I don't know about you but I would rather put up with annoying music than be upside down for two hours. I have not fully sure as to what you are getting at but I go to Rutgers. Not really a PC indoctrination center since they are changing over to Macs. So I guess it is a Mac indoctrination center. And We don't have to goose step there either! We just have always figure out a way to 70 people on a bus that has a total (sitting and standing) capacity of 60.mindflipper wrote:Don't want to offend? Be careful - did you remember Len90 is a student going to one of those PC indoctrination centers?
Hey, Len90, have been indoctrinated yet? Do they make you goose-step when you are?![]()
Imaginationcelebration: I don't know about you, but I am one that tends to get a bit claustrophobic. Being stuck in a confined thing for an extended moment of time would make me flip out... let alone upside down. So for me, torture music would be less torturous than upside down in a small confined place.

Ouch! Got me there with PC/Mac bit! Jacca5660 was referring to PC = Political Correctness. The whole "PC" movement is generally blamed on the universities (especially in the North or on the West Coast) where professors tend to force the idea upon the students.Len90 wrote:Not really a PC indoctrination center since they are changing over to Macs.
BTW the "goose-step" is a military step not exclusive to the nazis. It's just their the first common stereotype that comes to mind, and it is generally seen to be done by military forces of dictatorships. It has come to symbolize a mindless, military uniformity, an even Disney used the imagery in the "Lion King" when Scar mobilized the hyenas under his dictatorship.

Now that's deep!! Since it's becoming the Christmas season, didn't the wooden soldiers in March of the Wooden Soldiers goose step? Dude, we might be the only ones that remember that movie!
