I was there this past January for the marathon...and I believe the Yeti was working fine then. Of course...I only rode it once because of the crowds that day. I rode it several times in January 2008 as well...so I know what it looked like with full motion. I might have been too excited this past trip to really notice if he was moving or not...I want to say he was though.

A friend of my was on Everest yesterday (10-27-09). He told me that all the Yeti did was wave. He's a CM and has heard that the foundation was built insufficient for Yeti. It's also believed that Disney isn't gonna put anymore money into the ride for at least a few years.

According to the TV program on the Discovery Channel about this ride, they said they had built a seperate foundation & structure for the Yeti to be completely detached from the roller coaster itself. The vibrations from the roller coaster could damage the audio-animatronic, so the Yeti and the roller coaster had to be two separate structures designed to appear as if they were in fact one entire structure.

Maybe that didn't work out after all? Something slipped between the cracks? :?

The whole ride is 3 different foundations.

I remember reading somewhere that the foundation the Yeti is on was not properly designed and the movement from the Yeti had damaged it in some way...Don't know how true this is but sounds plausible.

People. It is a nano-second of the ride. To be honest, the first two times I rode it, I didn't even notice the Yeti. I fail to see the big deal.

I think the Big Deal is the fact that this is Disney. They built something substandard and we can't just say that's OK! We have to make sure the Disney knows that they are being watched and people notice when something like this happens!!

These are OUR parks and WE WILL HOLD DISNEY TO A HIGHER STANDARD!! WE are willing to pay for it! We do every time!!

Disney didn't build it. A contractor did. They should be held accountable. If you want to blame Disney for something, blame them for not vetting the contractor they used well enough.

True. But I am heading down in January. Splash Moutain will be out of service. Should I demand a refund?

I just don't see the point of closing down EE b/c the Yeti doesn't move. I ride it b/c it's a great roller coaster. Not b/c of the Yeti. Put an AA Yeti on It's a Small World and I'm still not riding it.

Just my opinion.

I think when you refer to a ride being down for a rehab and then refer to a new ride not having a major element not working, you are comparing apples and oranges. Should you get a refund for any or this? No I don't think you should. You can't, IMHO, say well Disney hired a bad contractor. Disney people over see everything done on property, they sign off on everything. The ultimate responsibility still falls firmly on Disney's shoulders.

I don't think I've ever said they should shut down EE. Now that, that is out there, If that's (That's a lot of that's! OY!) what has to be done to fix it, then yes by all means, FIX IT!!

Again IMHO. :+>

And I agree. Usually when something is being rehabbed it is for repair (of a major or minor element not working) or refurb or general maintenance and upkeep. Which is what closing down EE to would be to fix this.

http://www.wdwmagic.com/Attractions/Exp ... motion.htm

Well, according to this report it's back to "nearly full A mode" (whatever that means) and that it had been motionless for over a year. This atrticle is from July 3, 2009.

The first mention of it here came late last month. Well over a year since it stopped working. Which leads me to believe that either A) not many people even noticed it wasn't working or B) no one realy thought it was that big an issue.

I think that fact you pass Yeti so quickly and most people don't know what he's gonna do anyway makes it a non-issue for the average guest. It's the Disney nuts like us that have to keep the fire to them!! We must plurge Disney of any residual ghost of Eisner that remains!! We must KILL the "it's good enough attitude" that, that rancid plague named Eisner brought to our beloved parks!!

Was that to much?

No. Not too much. I love the passion in these discussions. It's what makes them great. I think we both have valid points. Disney was/is a place where you expect the highest quality of entertainment and when it doesn't live up to that, it's disappointing. To be honest, if I hadn't seen this post, I wouldn't have looked for the Yeti when I go down in January. Now, I will look and see if it is working or not. My original point was, whether it is working or not will not temper my enjoyment of that attraction.
