Last year they were quick to shut down schools. This year I have really not heard anything. I know Rutgers is trying to prevent any shutdowns and has planned mass inoculations to try and prevent swine flu out breaks on the campus. However, with all that said... there are/were cases at my college and they have not even thought of canceling.
Len: will the innoculations be mandatory for all students on campus? I've seen on the news some universities will make it mandatory (don't get the shot, then get kicked out). To me, that seems a bit drastic but I've actually heard it from a college student. So, since you're one of our resident college student on this forum, I gotta ask. Are you going to have to get the shot?
Actually, from what I have gathered I don't have to get any sort of flu vaccine. I have been getting emails about who is currently eligible for the swine flu nasal mist which is all they have gotten in so far. I do know that some colleges are making it mandatory, but with a statement like this, Rutgers makes it seem as if they had planned for everybody to be vaccinated in some form:
"At this time we do not know when we will receive the vaccine. We are working closely with the New Jersey and Middlesex County health departments to ensure that we receive the 40,000 doses we requested, but it is important to note that it is likely that we will receive limited supplies initially with more to follow at intervals through December."
Since I am not being forced into any sort of vaccine, I am still deciding as to whether or not I will choose to get the vaccine.

Now back to the topic, I seriously wonder if WDW would ever be shut down if there indeed was an outbreak starting up there...

It seems to be same for businesses everywhere. After the initial scare, businesses - at even universities like Rutgers it appears - are adopting a more cautious wait-and-see attitude - especially as a vaccine is available.

Places like Disney can be a cauldron when it comes to getting sick, but that's anytime you go. It's not because of any flu that's current, it's because of all of the people from all over the world.

Len!, on you next day off go into the city and see how you after going to, I don't know, Washington Square or just walking down Broadway at 42 street. Remember, take the ferry and the subway! Sounds like fun doesn't it?

I think he's likelier to get mugged before he will catch a bug!

Dude, if you get a day off, go see Toy Story 1/2 3D instead. Less walking, safer, and just as good as a chance to catch some bug from a kid in the audience.

But seriously, we all can name places - public places, theatres, etc. - where you stand just as good as chance to catch some miscellaneous virus as you do as Disney World. Going to shut down all those places too?

You know, my doctor says this whole swine flu thing is over-rated, and I agree with him. Look up the statistics for numbers of deaths with the H1N1 compared with just the regular old seasonal flu. No comparison. Regular seasonal flu is more intense, lasts longer, and kills many, many times more people than the swine flu, and yet it is not hyped in the media like this is being done. It's all hype meant to shore up support for political agendas.
That having been said, it will make you sick. A friend of mine had one of his kids come down with it, and she was sick for a few days. But again, not as bad as the regular flu they always get every year, and no one else in the family even got it.
Anyway, good sanitation habits are the key. Frequent hand washing, and carrying hand sanitizers with you is always the way to go. My first trip to WDW I got really sick because I wasn't careful. On every trip since then, I have carried hand sanitizer and used it after every ride, after touching handrails, etc. And then I always wash thoroughly after visiting a restroom. Guess what? Never been sick since.
By the way, I did get my seasonal flu shot this year, but I'm not going to bother with the swine flu shot.

I can have the option for H1N1 vaccine later, but I've started to have second thoughts on it. My doctor has recommended a pass on it because there are refinements that are being done now that reduces some of the bad side effects that some people have so far.

I understand that the swine flu panic has led to an unfortunate incident in the Hundred Acre Wood:

Yes, Len, poor piglet - because what piglet didn't know, it was going to the be first annual luau in the hundred acres wood - buwahahahha...

Such a shame Paul Frees isn't around to narrate that line with his usual flair. Little dark humor with Halloween so fastly approaching...

Our bank has a branch in a grocery store, and I use the ATM every day there to do our deposit from work. SO I grab one of the sanitizing wipes they have at the front when you enter the store and I take it with me to the ATM and wrap it around my finger so when I touch the key pad the sanitizing wipe is really touching it =) because you know that thing NEVER gets wiped down and think of all the ppl touching it..ewwwwww
