I'm looking forward to finally experiencing Soarin' in California in another week. Don't know when I'll be getting down to Florida any time soon.
However, I received an interesting comment from my Mom, who was in Epcot a few days ago. It was her first time riding Soarin', and she was disappointed. She said that the ride was great, but that it was far too short. Has anyone else found this to be true? It may just be her perception, as she is used to the classic attractions like Pirates and the Haunted Mansion.

I rode Soariin' this past weekend. We had to do FastPass as the standby line was 70 minutes at lunchtime. We got our FastPass and went over to The Living Seas and did Turtle Talk with Crush and then came back and had lunch at the newly renovated food court in The Land and then did Soarin'.
I was scared to death as I have motion sickness, but I did o.k. I had to close my eyes when we "leaned" to the left or right. I never looked down towards the floor, so my fear of heights never kicked in. I really liked it, wished it were longer and would have done it again if time had permitted. I knew I would be back in two weeks, anyway, so not a problem.
I did smell the oranges, and there may have been other smells, too, but I was too scared to notice. Everyone should ride it once.

and you find yourself lifting your feet so they don't "get wet" or "hit the mountains" when you fly over. It is very realistic. I was so scared about getting sick the first time that I will have to do it again to see what all I missed. I will still have times I have to close my eyes, but I can deal with that a little better now that I know what to expect.

Don't forget to find the hidden mickey on the golf ball! So, is the video the same for both WDW and DCA? It seems like it from the conversation.
Me and a friend were joking that the ride makes California look really nice because there's no sign of smog in LA and fog in San Francisco.

I didn't see the golf ball, we must have been banking to the side at that time and my eyes were shut for the motion sickness. I will try and catch that when we go back in June.Lion Sleeps Tonight wrote:Don't forget to find the hidden mickey on the golf ball! So, is the video the same for both WDW and DCA? I remember seeing somewhere it is the same video, but I couldn't verify that myself. If I remember correctly, it starts with the Golden Gate bridge.

Don't chicken out. I am the No. 1 chicken there is on this earth. I have only ridden Splash Mountain once.
I was very nervous going into Soarin', my hands were swetting and my face was a little clammy. I just made sure I did not look down at the ground, and I had been told it was a very smooth ride, no jerking around, and that was correct. I only closed my eyes when banking left or right. It didn't bother me when we swooped down either. I would not hesitate to ride it again. They did have the standard warning signs about fear of heights and motion sickness, etc. I hope you give it a try once.

I could never understand how people can get sick on motion simulators, yet be perfectly fine when it comes to doing the real thing. So many people I know are like that. It would seem to me that it would be the reverse for most people (sick doing the real thing, but fine on a simulator).
Soarin is definately on the top 5 things I HAVE to do next time I go down.

I had gotten nautious on Star Tours for the first time ever, and was really surprised by it as it never happened before. I don't know if it was the jerky motion, or the fact that it's in a small room and no fresh air. Soarin' is fine because the room is cool(temp), the ride is smooth and you get sort of fresh air.js3901 wrote:I could never understand how people can get sick on motion simulators, yet be perfectly fine when it comes to doing the real thing.
