US Open Karate tourney July 4th weekend?
Has anyone been to the US Open Karate tourney? I just started and I'm thinking about going and competing in forms and technique next year. Just wondering if anyone has been to it or competed in it. It looks pretty cool and they have tons of divisions. Looks like it's a Coronado Springs (or that might be the host hotel, I'm not sure). I figure Disney plus karate, it has to be awesome!

Wow!! I'm a second dan in shotokan. I would have loved to be in that when I was younger. It's been too much time a too many injuries to go now! It's still sound just so cool!!

Cool! Someday I hope to be that good.
I just started so I'm just a white belt, but it's still a ton of fun. They have all sorts of divisions for adults and according to my instructor, even white belts can compete! Woohoo! Hopefully by then I'll be maybe a green belt? At least a yellow. They have an open martial arts division so maybe you could find a different style? One not so hard on your body? A friend of mine does Oom Yung Doe, it's not as stressful.

Not Karate, but we will be going to the U.S. Open for Taekwondo in Vegas in February. Also, we will be in Orlando the week coming up on July 4th (2010) for the National Championships / Jr Olympics for Taekwondo. My son (11) has been competing in forms and sparring for about 4 years and it is a blast to watch, and he really enjoys doing it.
