Are they chess pieces? I can sort of see rooks, bishops (if I squint), and pawns no knights though. I guess this could be a king or queen.Mr.ToadWildRider wrote:Looks like roof of Haunted Mansion, one of the chess pieces.
Anyway you are correct.

They are Chess pieces. There is no "knight" piece because it's always "night" inside... or so they say.Joe90 wrote:Are they chess pieces? Someone else can go! Or if no one has by the time I get home, I suppose I will.

Huh. That's the coolest piece of Disney trivia I've heard in a long time!Mr.ToadWildRider wrote:They are Chess pieces. There is no "knight" piece because it's always "night" inside... or so they say.
And isn't that the same picture you used a while back? I think it was with a zoom-in on the cupola, if I'm not mistaken.

I know that it stated that the chess thing is actually Chess pieces, But I would have trouble believing that its anything more than creative story telling or possibly inspiration for for the shapes, even if a cast member told me that. There's 3 kings or they queens? my point is if they were really supposed to be Chess pieces, there would be two of them and they would shaped differently. One could just as easily tell a tale that a playing card deck inspiration can be found, if you notice all shapes from each of the suits from a deck of cards can be found, diamonds, hearts, and clubs, can be found, and the spades, in the cement fence in the foreground. Its a wonderful tale even is Disney World swears by it itself, it would be a poor representation of a chess board with there being three kings. Sometimes Disney just likes to tell wonderful stories about things, just to amuse. I certainly hope that that tale about George the ghost of the POTC isn't true, just a fun tale. Because why would Disney cast members tell such a morbid sad tale about a workers death while your on a tour. And how would it look if that was your father or grandfathers employee death was being exploited in a WDW ghost story just to amuse guests. I hope that one rests in half truths. Sometimes the good stories are told because they sound good. It was a fun thing to hear about, the idea that those are chess pieces, thanks for sharing it Mr.ToadWildRider.

Somebody may have used a similar pic, I have only just uploaded it to imageshack.Nicc513 wrote:....... isn't that the same picture you used a while back? I think it was with a zoom-in on the cupola, if I'm not mistaken.

Never let the truth get in the way of a great story

I guess your right Joe90 It was a cute tale that Mr.ToadWildRider shared with the "knight" joke. I guess sometimes worry that people take jokes and stories and mix them up with the truth, thats what my drawn out paragraph was trying to say. But you say it much better.
So it seems we could use a pic, I've got a real easy one, but I'm gonna put it out there to maybe get things rolling.
