Traditions

Do you have any traditions you follow when you visit WDW, such as always a picture at the same spot, always doing the same thing for your first day, always making sure you eat at the same restaurant, etc. ?

Great question! We have quite a few of them. Two traditions that come to mind right away. First my daughters have their faces painted every single time we visit. Second we always take a picture at the Imageworks Lab- (Imagination pavillion) and send it via e-mail to family members.

Every year we take creative photos of the kids "holding" up the monorail track and Spaceship Earth. We also take an annual Christmas card photo of our family in front of one of the park icons - but every year the Castle seems to make the actual card - Spaceship Earth has made it once!

Also, it's not a Disney trip for us without a dining experience at Boma!

We always take a pic by the castle for our annual Christmas card.

We also pick one full service restaurant where we get nicely dressed up and have dinner at. We get some strrange looks from people wondering why we are dressed so fancy to eat in the parks, but we really enjoy it. Last year, we were at the Brown Derby. This year, we're not sure where we're going to do our dinner yet. We're considering Le Cellier.

Yes we have a few. I'll just mention acouple. First day is MGM Studio, we go The Great Movie Ride. For some reason my daughter feels we have to ride this first. There is a bridge at the Magic Kingdom, in front of the Crystal Palace entering the Adventure Land we have to take a picture. It's fun to see how the kids have grown. We have to eat at the Crystal Palace to see Pooh. I could spend all night on this topic, but won't.

Its a new thing but now every time I go to Disney I MUST volunteer for the Backlot Tour show as I did use to work their, besides that though nothing I can think of right now.

Every time I go, I always have to get 2 pictures at the Star Tours ride. The first is under the Walker's raised foot. The other is on the Speeder Bike. Besides pictures every time one thing we have to do is make the run to Space Mountain as the Magic Kingdom opens. Have to get 3 or 4 rides in before the crowds get there.

I have two traditions (well one was sort of a fantasy of mine) whenever my family and I would go to Walt Disney World. We would leave North Georgia in the AM for my Grandma and Uncle's house in Matiland (north of Orlando) and I would always ask my dad if we could go to WDW when we got there. Little did I know (and it took my a couple of trips to realize this) that we would always arrive at my Grandma's house really, really late. The trip was around 12 hours I would guess. But he would always say yes and get my hopes up. So you could say my asking and my dad saying yes was sort of like a tradition.
Second one, (and this can no longer be accomplished due to the parks changing their hours and certains attractions have closed). After a fun fill day at the Magic Kingdom (staying until they closed at 7:00 PM) we would race over to the monorail to hop over to EPCOT cause they didn't close until 9:00 PM. When we got there, we would ride Spaceship Earth, Horizons and World of Motion. We did this everytime we went. This worked really well in the rain too. Cause as most of you know, when it rains, people tend to leave the parks. Not us, rain or shine, we played.

We always try a new restaurant that we've never eaten before, and we always make sure to spend a fair amount of time inside the Mexican Pavilian at Epcot - my son LOVES to watch the glassblower. Actually - HE has 2 things he does every trip to WDW - he gets a piece of blown glass at the Mexica Pavilian and gets a pearl from an oyster at either Downtown Disney or the Japanese Pavilion. (He doesn't get them drilled, he leaves them whole, and then when he gets older and gets married - he plans on having a pearl necklace made for his wife). What a great idea, don't you think?!

I have enjoyed reading all these responses.

We make sure we always get a Dole Pineapple Whip.
We try and ride in the front of the monorail.
Always get a souvenier bucket of popcorn.
If we arrive in the evening, we have dinner at Ghiradelli.

hmmmmm, sounds like most of our traditions involve food.

Riding in the front of the monorail is always a plus!!! Amazing how many people DON'T know about that. I remember the first time my family rode up front, thought that had to be the most awesome thing in the world.

It's the things like this that make Disney so magical. I would think that driving the monorail would be a cool thing to do, also.

There is a trick to rideing in the front of the monorail. You have to ask. Not be first in line. And be ready to wait for the next monorail if the front is occupied. They make you sit on the little blue bench, so they know you asked. I had a lady get mad cause she thought her and her family were going to ride up front. But they didn't ask. I would have let them ahead of us, but she was a horse's backside.
