Twelve hurt when 2 Disney buses crash

From what I have read there have been five employee deaths at Disney parks, or the result of injuries sustained at a park.

Any idea on guest fatalities? I know there was the little boy on Mission:Space, the British girl on ToT (though I think these were both heart attacks?), and some guy who got decapitated trying to climb between peoplemover cars.

I'd be curious to see how many guests as well (not that I'm morbid or anything). I remember a trip in the early 2000's where Splash Mtn was closed down mid-day and the reports were that someone tried to get out of the log before the plunge and got stuck and went down with it. I'd be curious to see if that was true.

There are a few lists of guest accidents, and if I recall, I think they were all caused by the guest being stupid (like the kid on the peoplemover who was jumping between cars) or "natural causes."

From what I have found, 16 guests have died as a result of natural causes, ten have died as a result of doing stupid things, and four have died as a result of negligence.

There could be more, I remember hearing about a guest dying on Space Mountain, because he stood up while the ride was in motion...this was before the installation of the shoulder restraints when it was just a lap belt for three people.

On our last visit which was just in May...DH and I wanted to go on ToT and they told us that the attraction had lost power. Only thing was Rockin Roller Coaster was still running and the ToT gift shop had power! We then noticed behind ToT an ambulance! There wasn't any bad weather at the time for the ride to lose power. Just seemd fishy with the ambulance and everything else having power. I'm pretty sure ToT and Rockin Roller Coaster are on the same power grid?! Maybe I'm wrong though! It makes you wonder how many other injuries/deaths happend and Disney coveres them up?!

But Disney had set high expectations, and you expect that nothing will go wrong. It's the dilemma of having set such a high bar and aim for "perfection."

It is very sad to hear of another incident involving the Walt Disney World Transportation. I do agree with spodie that this got more attention due to the monorail incident. Any word as to what kind of buses were involved in the accident?

That is a very sad story. The bus is probably the most unsafe mode of transportation in Disney. Overall, the Disney drivers are very cautious. During my last stay, we had a bus driver who liked to push the gas down a bit too hard. Also, they have to deal with the tourists who have no idea where they are going.

Quick question. Unless you are a CM, how did you get backstage to see an ambulance behind ToT?

Yes ToT and RnRC are on the same power grid, but one can still be open while the other has lost power.

I noticed the ambulance b/c when we ran the ToT 13K in Oct. we finished the race behind the tower and they let us enter back in the park through those gates. You could see the top of the ambulance and it had it's lights going. It just seemed odd, if they lost power, why the ambulance? Is this just a standard procedure or something?!

You make a great point. We had a similar occurance with Test Track when we went. My mom and I were waiting in line and all of a sudden they made an announce ment for everybody to about face and leave through the door they entered. We hung out for a few minutes after and saw people coming out from getting evacuated in the attraction. From above the fence behind the attraction there were emergency lights on. Nobody said what was wrong, but the attraction was down for about and hour and a half.
