We were in WDW during this time and it was very sad. From what I understand, Austin did everything correctly. I saw the monorails sitting in the transportation and ticket center but the actual damage was well hidden. It was very sad to see.

My family and I were there On the July 4th wkend. When we heard that our hearts fell and wanted to cry. We had to explain to the kids what they had heard. That was the topic for the kids all day. They asked all kinds of questions and we answered all of them. Even thou we didnt know the pilot and family but our thoughts and hearts goes out to them. This is something no parent wants to ever experience or imagine. That day I gave my son a big kiss and hug. I held him in my arms for awhile and told him that I love him. :donald:

July 5th was a very somber day at the parks. It was just heartbreaking to see the two monorails sitting at the TTC station. It was also depressing to see Monorail Black at the Magic Kingdom station and Monorail Lime at the GF during that time frame.

The other 10 monorails are running and have been running since about 2PM on July 6. However, there is nobody allowed to sit in the front until further notice. There are also new procedures in effect to transfer beams. The only outstanding questions left are:
1. When will people finally be allowed in the front?

2. What will happen to the two damaged monorails?

Currently from what I know, the two damaged monorails are sitting in the far end of the monorail shop where investigations were continuing. Supposedly there was a tarp wall built to separate three beams from the rest of the building so only few people will be allowed to see the wreckage.

3. How can we guarantee that something like this will never happen again?
New safety measures were immediately put in place, but is that enough?

Ok thanks. I still wanna drive the monorails anyway lol. I'm sure there going to figure out new ways to prevent this from happening again. I think i read somewhere that this is only the second time in.........i think 30 years. I may be wrong about the date.

There have been some other incidents on the monorail, but this was the first deadly one to happen in it's history. The other incidents include:

Feb 1974 a monorail hit a monorail in front of it causing injuries to the driver and two passengers
June 1985: Monorail Silver (Mark IV train) had a fire engulf the rear car on the EPCOT line. Seven passengers were treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was casued by friction from a flat tire.
Aug 1991: A monorail hit a diesel tow tractor that was filming it near the Contemporary for a commercial. Two workers were hosptialized
Aug 1996: A monorail had an electrical fire pulling into the Magic Kingdom station. The driver and 5 passengers exited safely. Two bus drivers were treated for smoke inhalation as they ran to assist the monorail

UPDATE: The damaged cabs/cars of Pink and Purple have been removed and are not at the Monorail barn. The ivestigation is still going on right now and there is no word on whether or not they will repair the damage or just scrap them and make new ones.

Thanks for the update MadEye. Is there any word on having the undamaged car of Purple to be painted and make a debut on Pink? It has been a rumor that has been going around ever since the monorails were brought back to the barn.
Also, is there any information on where the cars went to? Was it to Bombardier or was it to some holding facility due to the investigation?

Thank you.

I met the young driver through my CP friend who drove the monorail. He was a very nice young man. Very friendly, nice, helpful..... a great example of a CM.

I don't know. Sorry. I'm just relaying stuff that I'm hearing from others closer to the situation that I know hasn't been discussed here. I think the only people who know where those cabs/cars are is the NTSB and management/higher-ups at Disney
