Wow, room rates are ridiculous!

AP rates
I agree! We used to stay at Fort Wilderness for an average of $30 per night. Now it's usually around $50 with the AP discount and partial hookup!!! That is crazy. There are campgrounds all around WDW for MUCH less!!! They don't even have a good pool! Supply and demand...it stays full since 9/11. It is a shame Disney has no remorse about scamming us with this bad deal!!!
However, I stayed at Caribbean Beach resort during superbowl weekend and got a great room (beach view), on the first floor, with a refrigerator; for only $79 per night total taxes and all! I used my AP discount, but from what I noted on their computers, that was only a $30 savings per night.
It was a fabulous deal, I heard others had paid $170+. The resort was totally full too...cheerleaders, dancers, and superbowlers. It seems like there are some resorts that are just bad deals now. I hope the winds change on Fort Wilderness. We love it there, but I won't pay $50 to use a shower house and have a junky pool area.
Sorry so negative...SAVE DISNEY, ROY!

When you look at prices, keep in mind you get full Disney transporation and access to resort-only ammenities (EMH). So staying off site requires you to get:
transportation
gas
figure out how much EMH is worth to you
At a Disney resort, you're not just paying for a room.

There's like a jillions posts here - no time to read them all . . . but Mousesavers.com is the most accurate website for codes for any Disney Resorts. It's a great site and they always seem to have the codes out even before Disney Cast Members know they are available.
I called this week with an annual pass code for May of this year and the women @ reservations said that she wasn't told the codes were coming out and she had a staff meeting the night before. Mousesavers.com seems to have some great connections.

Yeah AP resorts prices rock. I get the AP every year to save on the resort prices.AKLRULZ wrote:You might consider an AP - we scored a great AP rate at Beach Club for next month. Good luck.

If you are adventerous try camping at Fort Wilderness. I camped there in my tent a few times. It's great and so peaceful at dawn to go watch the sun come up over Bay Lake. Then there is the FREE disney movie every night and semi affordable food at the outpost stores.

Are the room rates up for 2009 yet? Last time I checked in they were quoting the highest room rate from 2008 for every room in each hotel. This was due to the fact that last year they quoted too low for 2008 and then had to charge us more, not very customer friendly.
Anyhow, just wondering if anyone has booked for 2009 and knows if the actual rates are being quoted.

Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Not yet.
I think they will let you book at the highest rate, like you mentioned, then credit you once they release the new rates. I am guessing they are waiting to see how the end of the year looks, ie recession, to see how they adjust the rates.

I agree with rdeacon. I can't imagine going all the awy to WDW and staying off property. The themed hotels are part of the whole experience. If the deluxe hotels are too much, try a moderate. Sometimes you can get specials for $110.00 or less. Even with our annual passholder rate we have come to expect to pay a high room rate for the MK hotels (Contemp, Poly,GF) you just have to determine if the budget can stand it and is it worth it to you.
