Cafe Orleans

Post by MmeLeota » Jul Thu 16, 2009 5:58 pm

Ok, this proves how "out of the loop" I am when it comes to my favorite place on earth. I just found out that Cafe Orleans has the monte cristo on the menu. Has anyone tried it? Is it the same sandwich they serve in BB minus the side dishes?
Cafe Orleans wasn't even finished the last time I was there...all the walls were still up.

I've tried the Monte Cristo sandwiches there but I haven't tried them at the Blue Bayou so I can't vouch for it. All I can say is that the sandwiches are so good and I'm dying for one right now.

It's probably the same sandwich then. I'm assuming that because of the cheaper price tag than BB, there are no sides with it. Is that correct?

We ate at Cafe Orleans this weekend and of course had to have the Monte Cristo. Just as yummy as always and it brought back memories of the "old" days when it was just served with an apple...even though we had grapes instead (honestly, the sandwich is so rich, no sides are needed).

The sandwich appears to be the same as BB, but as we noticed 2 years ago, the sandwich is cut into quarters and seems a bit smaller. Not as much meat to it (and I could finish the whole sandwich; a feat I failed at every time before).

We had one regular Monte Cristo and one Three Cheese Monte Cristo and we split them. Oh my gosh...the three cheese is fabulous! Swiss, mozzarella and double creme brie....talk about heart attack on a plate! But it tastes so good!

I remember a story last year somewhere that said that the Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou had gone up really high in price but a slightly scaled down version was available at Cafe Orleans for a much more affordable price.

Yes. I didn't even look at the menu at BB, but when we were there 2 years ago I think it was $23.99. I imagine it's even more now. The last time we got it, you had 2 side dishes with it (and the sandwich looked smaller...go fig). IMHO, that is way too much food. The sandwich is filling as it is and does not need sides. I miss the days it was served with an apple and it was $9.95...and that was considered expensive. ;)

I was disappointed at first that they were offering a BB classic elsewhere in the park, but I'm kind of glad they are. It makes it a little more accessible for those of us who do not want to shell out the dough for BB...but the atmosphere is phenomenal!

I am also glad that it remains at a sit down restaurant.

I figured it was. While we still love the original sandwich, that 3 cheese one was fabulous! The brie made it so creamy and the mozzarella made it stringy and the swiss held it all together...oh, I'm hungry now!!!!!

I love the three cheese one more than the meat one, surprisingly.

I wanna try a Monte Cristo sandwich. Since I don't live real close to DLR I found a recipe. Here it is:

Does it look correct?

Looks like it...but I think they use a blackberry jam for dipping rather than raspberry.
