American Adventure Scene 1939

Post by cousininmiami » Apr Wed 18, 2012 10:34 am

I just found out (from my Dad) that the 1940's Animatronic scene in The American Adventure was based on a famous picture from 1939 in North Carolina, and is in the National Archives! Maybe everyone already knew this, but I am still always blown away by the information my Dad knows! So here is a picture of the American Adventure from our trip last week, followed by the National Archive picture from 1939:

As Coca-Cola is (or is it now was?) a sponsor, I was surprised that they didn't have the coke adverts in the AA scene.

If I recall, many of the scenes are based upon paintings and photos from the time

I don't think Coke ever was a sponsor there, but you can see it in the upper right, just poorly lit. Right now it's some cleaning goods company I think.

I took a ton of pictures of this scene last time we went so I'll have to see if I see any Coke advertising in the scene when I get home tonight.

Have checked - American Express and Coca Cola was originally the two sponsor for AA way back when. Coke ceased theirs in 1998, and Amex in 2002. I gather the attraction no longer has any sponsors.

In 2008 it was Brawny I think. It was someone who made paper towels.

Coca-Cola is still displayed on the upper right hand side of the scene as Wizzard thought. It is very poorly lit. I wonder if it was a bit brighter when they were still a sponsor? Those photos unfortunately are locked in the naughty computer

Why do you keep your vacation photos with your pr0n? :D

I swear that has happened before, the sponsor leaving but they had no replacement, so they jus draw attention away from it. Since Coke is still in the park, there isn't as much bad blood.

Once again, these are the subtle details of attractions that set Disney apart from any other theme park. Thanks for posting cousininmiami.

That is just awesome. As this is one of my favorite attractions I love this bit of knowledge. I think everyone who claims they are a true American should see this show. Thanks!
