Disney resorts you didn't like

Post by AKLRULZ » May Fri 13, 2005 8:40 am

Someone recently mentioned their dislike for the WL and I'm curious if you've ever stayed at a WDW Resort that you'd not go back to.

Our preference is a self contained resort with interior hallways - like AKL, WL or BC. Not sure we'd go back to a moderate resort as we'd need two rooms for our family of 5, but I can't say we've ever disliked any of the resorts we've tried.

I have to say my preference is for "tropical theme" resorts. I disliked WL for some of the reasons you liked it, the interior halls with kids running up and down halls and lots of noise. I love the lobby and WCC and taking the boat to Ft. Wilderness for breakfast.

That said, I totally dislike the AllStars, mainly because i have stayed there too many times. If you arrive late, it is too difficult to find your room in the dark, and we have had them put us in a room that was already occupied. While I dislike AllStars, I do like the other budget, Pop Century. I love Caribbean Beach. All time favorites are the DVC rooms with the added space and amenities.

The only resort I have not stayed in is the AKL, and I think it would be too dark for my taste, but I would stay there to do the Sunrise safari.

My sister had a bad experience at Caribbean Beach (infestation) and so I can't bring myself to stay there.

I'd say you probably won't enjoy it - it's a self contained resort, interior hallways and a lot of rich, dark woods. Obviously my fav :D , but probably not worth dropping bucks for concierge service for the SS.

All-Stars. While we didn't hate it, it wouldn't be our first choice.

My family also didn't care of Caribbean Beach. It was our first ever trip to WDW as a family and my DH and I hadn't been there since we were kids ourselves. Anyway - we stayed 4 nights at Wilderness Lodge and 4 nights at Caribbean Beach. (That was probably the 1st mistake, if you're going to split your stay, start out at the moderate and end up at the deluxe, that way you won't be dissapointed) Atleast one of us always ending walking in duck poop and carried it into the room on our shoes  . We finally had to really watch the ground when we were walking to dodge the droppings  The food court was in really bad shape and the bathrooms always smelled like someone missed the toilet!

This was back in 1997, and I know they re-did the food court since then, but I still can't bring myself to stay there. I'd rather try other resorts 1st.

Hmm i would have to say any of the all-stars/value resorts are not my first choice.

Its not that I don't like the resorts. I've stayed at All-Star Movies a couple times and fine the rooms to be minimal but clean and acceptable.

Same with the food court, good and clean. The food court in the all-stars actually has my fav breakfast food.... BREAKFAST PIZZA !!!

The only reason its not one of my top picks is the amount of kids those resorts attract. Now by kids I don't mean your run of the mill family with the 2.5 kids... I mean the bus loads of bands, cheerleaders, scouts, brownies, etc. Its just too many kids with minimal supervision. Its not a good combo.

We stayed at POP last October and the only kids there were with families. (I'm sure it was the time of year) This July we'll be staying @ Allstars for 2 nights before transferring to DVC - so, we'll see how crazy it is then

We stay at the budgets before checking into DVC, too--really makes you appreciate your DVc, doesn't it?

We prefer Pop Century head and shoulders over AllStars, and they are the same rate. Better location (right next to Caribbean Beach, so not so far out) and the decor to me is so much more pleasing. That is so strange since when Pop was being built most people thought it was atrocious. I realy like it there. I like the set up of the food court/gift shop at Pop better, too. For the same rate, I always choose Pop.

Yep, it really does make you appreciate your DVC! :D Last October was our 1st experience with a value resort, which happened to be POP, and my husband and I were pleasantly surprise at how nice it was and how great the themeing was. The food court was awesome. We plan on staying there again this October for 2 nights so our kids can see how cool it is too! 8) My DH now has a goal to try every one of the Disney resorts each trip before we check into DVC and this time it happens to be Allstars - Sports (Couldn't get into Movies or Music with A/P rate  ) We are all excited to experience it, though! We have 2 teenagers and they like to try new resorts too, so it should be fun! :)

I dont care much for the All-Star myself, its too far from most of the resort and the general feel of the place turns me off a bit. If I am strapped for cash at a Disney resort I go for the Pop Century myself.

We have been fortunate to stay at all of Disney's resorts with the exception of the AKL and the Boardwalk Inn. Not sure if I consider the Inn separate since we have stayed at BWV.

Until Pop came along, the AllStars made the most sense for the weekend before checking into DVC, and we have stayed there so many times that I just don't like it.

So, where do you stay on your weekend before checking into DVC - POP? Do you prefer that much more than Allstars?

I definitely prefer Pop over AllStars. We have arrived at AllStars late a couple of times and it is difficult to find your room at midnight, and we have been given someone elses room, tried to walk in on sleeping people.

Pop's location, the slightly larger bathroom, window curtains that overlap so no early sunlight comes in, and the decor, all make a difference to me. The location is a biggie for me. AllStars seems away from everything to me. I may be wrong, but I remember Pop having more outlets and dataports near the table and chairs for your computer stuff.

I just like it better. Look forward to staying there, dread AllStars.

We also really like Caribbean Beach. Recently renovated, the largest moderate rooms, etc., and we like the location, too.

I do have to admit that recently we have just bitten the bullet and spent the weekend points. Our son works down there right now, and sometimes we just don't have a lot of time to spend moving, we would rather spend it with him. Regardless of how easy Disney makes it, it still takes some time. We have also done some add-ons and have more points available to us.

If you have not stayed at AllStars before, you will like it just fine. I cannot count how many times we have stayed there--guess the been there, done that and don't need to do it again applies to us.
