Obviously not me, I don't know what you're talking about.

It's a screen saver that processes SETI data when your computer isn't doing anything. SETI collects more data than it has processing power, so it shares the load across all of nerddom.
I used to run it until Oxford University started a project working on the cure for cancer. I thought that was a little more important than searching for little green men, so I ran that until it closed shop a couple years ago.
Now I just shut the machines down to save power.

Oh oh oh oh yes....
My PS3 can do that. But I don't because if it's on i'm using it and when I'm not using it it's off.

I used to, but haven't in a long time. I think one windows-prompted hard drive format wiped out my install and I never replaced it. I always used to think it was a little depressing that the packets you'd be analyzing were like, years old by the time you got them.

I signed up for it a week ago, but then I realized that my computer is never on at home, do to energy saving tactics...........um...............yeah................that's the ticket. Actually I don't have it on because it is always too hot to run the computer. But I found out about it about because Nova Science Now mentioned it.

If I knew I'd get a free replacement PS3 when mine overheated and died from being on all the time and a $5/month energy bill credit - I'd be all over it.Dr. Ravenscroft wrote:I signed up for it a week ago, but then I realized that my computer is never on at home, do to energy saving tactics...........um...............yeah................that's the ticket. I haven't used this in years, so I just logged in to my account to see what info was there... Apparently I joined 9 years ago, August 1999, but I only contributed 455 hours of computer time. I was a little disappointed, I thought I had done more, and given the processing power of that machine over the ones of today, I'm sure it's on ly about 2 hours by current standards. If I, like many of the folks here, didn't power down my machine to save energy, I would do this again. Thanks Jacca5660, for the trip down memory lane!

not to get this thread off-topic anymore, according to Terminator 3, skynet was any machine connected to the internet, and eventually spread to any electronic device that communicates with any other device.bamato wrote: Not to mention a small voice in my head was sayin "skynet....."
as for the original post, sounds ;ike something cool. I'll have to look into this when I have time to research it...
