Obviously not me, I don't know what you're talking about.

It's a screen saver that processes SETI data when your computer isn't doing anything. SETI collects more data than it has processing power, so it shares the load across all of nerddom.

I used to run it until Oxford University started a project working on the cure for cancer. I thought that was a little more important than searching for little green men, so I ran that until it closed shop a couple years ago.

Now I just shut the machines down to save power.

Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence. Kind of a fancy name for UFO chasers. Of which I am not.

Oh oh oh oh yes....
My PS3 can do that. But I don't because if it's on i'm using it and when I'm not using it it's off.

I used to, but haven't in a long time. I think one windows-prompted hard drive format wiped out my install and I never replaced it. I always used to think it was a little depressing that the packets you'd be analyzing were like, years old by the time you got them.

I signed up for it a week ago, but then I realized that my computer is never on at home, do to energy saving tactics...........um...............yeah................that's the ticket. Actually I don't have it on because it is always too hot to run the computer. But I found out about it about because Nova Science Now mentioned it.

If I knew I'd get a free replacement PS3 when mine overheated and died from being on all the time and a $5/month energy bill credit - I'd be all over it.

What sort of crazy person would spend their own money looking for alien life?
You would have to be deranged to sign up for this. The chances of finding anything are astronomically small.

So obviously ...yes I do run SETI AH :)

I haven't used this in years, so I just logged in to my account to see what info was there... Apparently I joined 9 years ago, August 1999, but I only contributed 455 hours of computer time. I was a little disappointed, I thought I had done more, and given the processing power of that machine over the ones of today, I'm sure it's on ly about 2 hours by current standards. If I, like many of the folks here, didn't power down my machine to save energy, I would do this again. Thanks Jacca5660, for the trip down memory lane!

not to get this thread off-topic anymore, according to Terminator 3, skynet was any machine connected to the internet, and eventually spread to any electronic device that communicates with any other device.

as for the original post, sounds ;ike something cool. I'll have to look into this when I have time to research it...
