Deli at DCA where Trattoria is

Post by danimal3114u » Dec Tue 11, 2007 12:28 pm

Does anyone else remember to old self-service deli that used to be in the Golden Vine area? It was replaced by the trattoria shortly after the park opened. It was my favorite restaurant in DCA before they shut it down. The food was excellent (much better than the trattoria) even though it was presented in a market/self service deli theme. The sandwhiches soemtimes came in those little plastic cases you see at AMPM, or just wrapped on a plate with a side dish or two. They had sandwiches, sides, soups, salads, chips, fresh fruit, and a wide variety of drinks to choose from. They also had some amazing desserts there. The themeing was actually very cool, as you felt like you were in an indoor farmers market that spread across two rooms. It was also nice because you could get your food very quickly and go rest outside and have a bite to eat. It was always packed when we went in there, and the prices were actually incredibly reasonable for the quality of food and general park prices.
Does anyone else remember this awesome restaurant that was replaced without getting much of a chance (in my opinion at least)?

I'm no help here, as I did get to DCA fiarly soon after the opening, but not soon enough it seems as the Trattoria was already there.

I went before the park was open to the public but I don't remember it. Sorry.

The Deli was part of the Robert Mondavi Winery restaurant complex....
See following.

"Next, we wandered over to the Bountiful Farm section which is supposed to represent California’s farm heritage with different crops growing all over the place. The Robert Mondavi Winery has a wine bar, deli, and restaurant here. I have heard much grumbling over Disney serving alcohol in the new park but this has long been the practice in Florida.

We found the winery very nice and refreshing. We enjoyed the wine demonstrations on the patio, the kitchen shop and deli, and then settled down with a nice glass of wine. We skipped the winery tour (we’ve done dozens of winery tours so I don’t think we missed much). The very nice staff gave us some samples from the upstairs restaurant (yummy) and told us that the tables on the patio are the best spots to watch the parade later. One saleslady also was helpful in telling my wife that she could get the same fine kitchenware outside the park for much less (this husband thanks you). The winery is a big hit with us."

Here's another link about the Deli's demise.

Wow, thanks Bullwinkle! I had looked at various sites for that, but had forgotten that Robert Mondavi was tied to it (that probably would have helped my search). Thanks for the links!
