What's your favorite dark ride at the Disneyland Resort?

Post by billville » Nov Thu 08, 2007 11:56 am

Im sure a lot us here are fans of the classic dark rides / themed rides that made Disneyland so popular. There are a lot to choose from but lets see what the listeners of subsonic radio think.

What's your favorite dark ride at the Disneyland resort? I tried to add the ones that I think classify as a dark ride or come close to that genre. Hopefully I got all of them.

With Haunted Mansion Holiday on the list, there is no competition. I would be interested to see what the results would be without it.

Haunted Mansion Holiday should not be on the list. "Dark ride," imho, implies a C or D ticket, not an E ticket like HMH. Besides... why put HMH on here, and not the original Haunted Mansion?

My vote is for Peter Pan, anyway. The star room, flying over London, is still one of my favorite all-time effects.

I know...i just didnt know what mixed comments id get if i didnt add it or did. The only main reason i put it up there was because of the bright vibrant colors you get from the all the blacklighting. It kinda resembled the theming of what the dark rides have. If you can remove it spaulo then by all means go for it. Can mods do that??

My vote went to Alice In Wonderland...it's a corny kind of ride but Alice In Wonderland is my favorite movie and I also have that huge ride poster that you see in Main Street Tunnels in my bedroom. Lol. It was a present when I was like 13. I'm 23 now.

If HMH is not on the list, my vote would also go for Alice.

Not an "E" ticket? I don't understand how you came to that conclusion? Isn't a dark ride, a dark ride? Sorry I just couldn't let that statement just stand out there without a challenge.
Did you really modify this poll on just your opinion of what you felt a dark ride is? Isn't that just putting your opinion in front of some one else's without a real valid reason? Most of the coasters at Disney are dark rides.
On a dark ride not being an "E" ticket, I grew up in Coney Island. Way before Walt thought about building a park, Coney had dark rides that charged just as much as an coaster (except the Cyclone, it was always more).
One other point, haunted houses are "CLASSIC" dark rides. They are actually the origin of darks rides! You can read about this on the Coney Island web site.

I had to go with Peter Pan. It is a ride I remember fondly from my visit as a youth.

See now my vote was deleted but I can't cast my vote for a ride on the current list. NOT FAIR! lol

I guess my vote now is for Peter Pan, if I can ever get through the stinkin' line!

(Mods don't worry about it if you can't fix it!)

So does this mean we cant vote again now? Those of us who voted for HMH got our votes erased. It doesnt give us the option to re-vote. Can you add our new votes spaulo?

My new vote goes to peter pan.

Jacca, calm yourself. The creator of this post ASKED me to remove HMH. And yes, it is just my opinion, but apparently not one that I hold uniquely. a "Disney dark ride," in my opinion, is not just a "Disney ride in the dark." Space Mountain is not a dark ride. Nor is Pirates.

And yes, I will reallocate those who voted for HMH to another ride. I believe there were three votes for HMH when I took it out of the poll.

billville is voting for Peter Pan.

broncoflyer is voting for Peter Pan.

soccermouse is voting for Alice.

That should cover everyone.

EDIT:
:sigh: of course, it appears that while I can edit the contents of the poll, I cannot edit the votes. That will teach me for interfering on behalf of a poll's creator.

My apologies to soccermouse, billville, and broncoflyer.

Its all good spaulo...you tried. Its just a poll anyway and not the end of the world. With our votes that puts peter pan at 6 right now and alice with 4.

I also apologize to everyone if I have disappointed anyone for having spaulo remove that option. From the beginning i kept questioning whether or not it would be considered a dark ride or not.

On one side i see it as a dark ride because of all the vibrant bright colors it displays with all the blacklighting. It closely resembles the theming of the dark rides we all know and love. On another side i see spaulo's reasoning for being that almost all the dark rides are a c or d ticket type ride and are not on a grand scale like HMH. I guess it can be argued on both sides. This is probably more fair for the smaller more intmate rides.

Man have I opened up the flood gates on this one! :?

Sorry if I went off the handle on this one.! :=( It's just that I've just had this whole discussion with my DN and he was sorry to lose the dark rides at Astro Land in Coney. After those HM was his favorite dark ride. Didn't mean to come on so strong. My bad!
