I couldn't disagree more with the original poster on this one. As someone with a little girl (aged 17 months and 29 months on last two trips), FastPass is an absolute MUST! It's nearly impossible to get a little one to wait 45 minutes to an hour in line for something. This way, we can FastPass Peter Pan, ride IASW (whoa, whoa, whoa) -- that's how she sang it when she was little -- maybe ride the carousel, then use our FastPass for Peter Pan without having her wait in line too much.
If you utilize your FastPass correctly AND you enjoy shopping and leisure time in the parks, I think they are an absolute MUST. Just ask anyone who's gone to Cedar Point and stood and waited in lines a total of 10 hours just to ride five attractions ALL DAY!!!!! I haven't been there in about three years, but we used to go every year and the first day was spent riding the big rides. Stand in line for 2 hours for "Top Thrill Dragster." Stand in line for 2 hours for "Millenium Force." Eat lunch. "Stand in line for 2 hours for "Raptor." etc. I'll take the FastPass any day!

Didn't Cedar Point get rid of their version of fastpasses because it made the lines longer?

So I don't know if this just the way they handle the FP or if it's policy. But the only time on the FPs that matters is the "Start Time". The passes expire at close of park that day. But anytime between the start time and close of park you can use them.
At least that is what we've been told the few times we asked.
The hour is just a "serving recommendation".

I like the Fastpass idea. And it's occasionally funny when you're the only person going down the Fastpass line, past a rather long line at MK's Space Mountain, and some kids who are there on their own decide to jump from the main queue to the Fastpass queue and follow you to the front, only to be turned right around and sent back to the back of the queue

If you have young children, FastPass is a MUST! If you've ever tried waiting in line for 45 minutes to an hour with a 29-month-old, who is VERY excited, then you know what I'm talking about.
With FastPass, you can get your pass at Peter Pan, go and see Mickey's Philharmagic, possibly ride IASW, eat lunch at Pinnochio Haus, then use your FastPass without having to wait much. I know many believe FastPass is a way for Disney to extract extra dollars from their guest by making it easier for them to shop. BUT I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT! I'M ON VACATION. I want to enjoy myself and that means NOT standing in line with an anxious little girl.
That's just one man's opinion!

Fastpass is excellent. I can't wait two hours for Splash Mountain. I'm not that patient.

I guess thats really what it comes down to doesn't it? How much time you have and how patient you are. If your patient and not worried about keeping to a schedule and don't mind standing in line you won't mind not using the fast pass.
But if your sticking to a schedule, or just hate waiting cause your impatient you'll definitely use fast pass.
Different strokes I guess....

It probably has a lot to do with when you visit. I won't go to a theme park in the dead of summer (unless it's Islands of Adventure and I'm staying on-site, which means you can go to the front of any line whenever you want). FastPasses are bothersome when the lines are short, but if a busy time is your one shot to go Disney for the year, I can see the value of them.

Exactly why I do not go during summer months. I prefer the cooler weather and shorter lines. If I ever have kids though I'm sure I will be among the masses that goes in June, July and August.

I'd expect to see some fast pass changes with the new machines. Universal Orlando offers it to their guests who stay onsite or you can pay additional money for the option if you're not staying onsite.
I'd expect to see, at a minimum, Disney release on the "1 at a time" rule for those staying on property or somehow build in faster line movement for that group.

I can't recommend this enough, by the way. It's not a matter of hunting down passes, either, you just show up to any attraction whenever you want and move to the front of the line. It feels great...like you own the place.
I believe that technically you are only supposed to be able to go to the front of the line once per day per attraction, but I've not seen that enforced. I haven't been in a while, so that might be different now.
This would be an amazing benny for those who stay at the deluxe Disney resorts, although those are so expensive (relative to the "cheap" Universal resort, which is actually extremely nice) that it might go too far towards class warfare, if you know what I mean.

That just means that you'll get the attracton fast pass option as a "rolling" discount 2 months out of the year or every other month like the current changing discounts
