I've only eaten there twice, once with friends and the other on my honeymoon with my husband.
I agree with going at lunch since the menu items are cheaper. And I have to be honest that the only thing I've tried is the Monte Cristo Sandwich (which I LOVED!) My friend (who lives in Orange County) suggested it the first time I ate there. Definitely though, it's all about atmosphere there. That's really what you're paying for. The food's good but...let's just say that I probably wouldn't eat there at those prices if it was just any other restaurant!

We are going back for another disneyland trip and we are trying to decide if it would be worth it to try and get reservations for the Blue Bayou. Basically is the food any better than the other places in New Orleans Square, is the ambiance worth the price? Or is there some other place that would be a better choice for a special family dinner? (it doesn't have to be in New Orleans Square)

I'd suggest Blue Bayou more for lunch than dinner. The lunch prices are very close to all other places in the park, the food is still spectacular, and the menu is pretty similar to the dinner menu. The food at Blue Bayou is without a doubt the best in New Orleans Square (and the park in my opinion) whether you are there for lunch or dinner.
Overall, I think that reservations and price for Blue Bayou lunch is very worth it, but if you are looking solely at dinner, it does get pricey.

Haha. This past week I got to try this highly recommended food. It was really good, and really different. I wasn't expecting it to come in such a big portion(but then again it IS BB), and topped off with a jam dip.danimal3114u wrote:Yes, the Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou is perhaps the greatest item of food ever created. Granted, about 20% of waht makes it so great is the ambiance where you're eating it. But oh.... that 80%...
We try to go there for lunch everytime we go to the park, I highly highly suggest it!
Good, but way too much to eat. After the salad, bread, and the actual entree I felt disgustingly full afterwards.

Yes, this is turning into a dangerous discussion... Now I'm desperately hankering for a Monte Cristo at 8:30 while at work.Esmeralda wrote: Mmm, a Monte Cristo sounds so good right now.
I was also thinking about how, for the first 12 years of my life I was incredibly scared of the Monte Cristo, and couldn't believe my parents were so disgusting to eat a deep fried turkey sandwich? What's wrong with them?!?!?! and then I learned the error of my ways, and I can never go back. If anyone is a fussy eater, or scared to try it, at the very least, make someone else in your party order it and try a bite... you'll be hooked for life!!

I went back yet again a couple of weeks ago with two of my brothers and my brother's friend. I think I was the only one out of the four of us who had been to the BB before. We were able to get a table right on the water front without waiting very long at all, and this was in the height of summer!
I talked up the Monte Cristo so much that everyone else ordered it too. Hee hee.

Talk about a double whammy. You got to sit by the water AND have a Monte Cristo?! I'm so jealous. I could go for one of those right now!
