On a Serious note I hope JS3901 is OK, being snowed under like that, man. I love snow but when it hits like it just did...it has to be rough with 21" of snow. My thoughts are with you guys up there.

the snow is pretty much gone. we have temperatures today around 60, and we've had rain over the last 2 days. the problem we had is almost all the trees in the area are severely damaged as they all had the leaves still on, and what fell was wet and heavy. you could hear limbs breaking all over town. it sounded like machine gunfire. right now, we are without power and have been since Thursday night. I'm using my cell phone as a modem and it goes VERY slow. also, I'm using a power inverter in my car to power my laptop.

the worst part of this storm is the fact that they forcasted 1-3 INCHES of snow on FRIDAY. instead, we get just under 2 FEET on THURSDAY. this storm caught us completely off-guard. where I live waas worst hit, with over 96% of people without power. National Grid says that (on the outside), power will be restored sometime this coming weekend. so with that, we've been doing everything by candlelight at night, and doing most things outside during the day.

I'll try and post some pictures of some of the devastation we have in the area...

JS glad to hear you are ok! I saw the pics on the news. You all got a doozy of a snow storm. Maybe that means that you will have an easier winter .. YAH RIGHT, well we can only hope. I hope you get your electricity on soon!

Good to hear...see your writings JS. It probably is a good thing you got good temps and rain the past few days, that way the linemen don't have to work in the snow, so they can get your power up quickly. Don't worry about the pics until you have power and the ability to upload them easier. Heres to a easy winter for all.

I'm on at work now. man, it's nice to have a fast connection again. almost forgot what it was like. we're still without power at the house, but we have power at work (go figure). I'll put the pics up when we get power back at the house, cause I can't install my camera here at work.

the linemen don;t have to work in snow, but they do have to work around tree branches and other debris. we have crews from about 5 or 6 different states including Canada to take care of the tree limbs as well as the power lines. they're calling for everything to be back up on Sunday, but I saw a Con Ed truck surveying the power lines behind my house along with a tree crew. hopefully somthing happens soon...

I actually saw a convoy of PECO (Philadelphia Electric Company) trucks and tree trimmers headed out onto the turnpike last night when I was at the Home Depot in Plmouth meeting. So there are more on the way JS.

ok, the good news is, we got power back last night around 8PM. and so far, seems stable - has not gone out yet.

the bad news is, our cable is out, which includes internet. I'm going to see if there's a dialup thing I can do with the home phone rather than using my cell phone to connect.

Hooray for finally getting your power back! And I thought MN weather was bad. I really pity you out there. There should never be blizzards this early in the season!
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

yeah, it was interesting when the power went on, we were looking out the window at a power truck nearby. all of a sudden, we could see the street lights coming on 1 at a time from the far end of the street right up to our house. when it reached the street light right across the street from my house, all our lights (that we accidentally left on after the power went off) turned on and kinda scared us. we then started cheering a bit, then realized that we had to wash out the fridge and stuff...

What a mess....... The shoveling must have been a pain

Of course.. if it snowed here, I would have taken a day off to go to Killington! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

I'm sorry you had to go through that though.. hope you didn't lose too much stuff in the fridge...

lost nearly everything in the fridge(about $350 in total). though, it did give us a good excuse to wash the shelves which we haven;t done in several years.

the snow wasn't really good for skiing. it was very wet and very heavy. snowblowers wouldn;t work on it. getting it to stay on a shovel was a job in itself. it kept sliding off. those tracks in the street, if you got out of them, your wheels would spin and you won;t be able to move until either you got shovels/salt or the snow melted. one person on the radio said that he accidentally crashed into a snowbank on the side of the road. after bacing out, the imprint of his license plate/front of car was IMPRINTED in the snow. and it didn;t move even after a couple hours. it was like cement.

The really freaky thing is that the snow disapered as quickly as it did. I mean how wierd is it that on, Friday tons of snow and branches down in the street, then on Sat-Sun dry street and sidewalks with all the branches piled up nicelyon the side of the round. You guys made quick work of the snow.

we didn't make quick work of the snow, Nature did. the temps got up high enough to start the melting, and the rain helped alot. now, all that's left of the snow is what was pushed into piles in parking lots (and those are really small now too).
