We can go to dinner at some of the great resturants Orlando and Kissimme have to offer. Shopping at the different Disney outlet stores can save you a bundle, Orlando has at least 3 different ones.
Also with our DS2 getting into those teenage years we find ourself at Universal and IOA for the their thrill rides. I couldn't imagine not having the freedom our car offers. If we flew we would actually have to leave at a scheduled time (we always stay a day or two longer, we once stayed 10 days over). Yes, I'm so glad we don't have to fly!!
I agree, having a car does give you a ton of extra freedom. We used Magical Express on 2 trips - and on our most recent trip last month, we had a rental car. I have to admit, having a car was MUCH nicer - we drove to the parks . . . no waiting 20 minutes for a bus.

As far as you staying 10 days more than your planned trip . . . I'm jealous!!!

I'm still jealous  I always thought it would be so neat to have a trip planned, and then as it was nearing the end, tell the front desk that we wanted to extend our trip. Ahhhh . . . what great dreams.

I read about it in another forum. I could not find it on Google's map. And I asked at Florida's rest stop/ tourist info. on the interstate, they didn't know, and it wasn't on their map.We took the Turnpike heading toward U.S. Highway 192. We were looking for a sign indicateing this way to Walt Disney World, but never saw one. I just figured we missed the road. Just past the Winter Garden's exit is an interchange. There was a sign that indicated, this way to Tampa. I took that exit. I thought I was heading towards HWY 192. Only thing, there was no traffic. No one on this road. I thought I was lost. It is a toll road, so I asked at the next toll both. The lady said WDW was just up the road. I arrived an hour early. We went in the "back door". No kidd'n, you come in behind every thing. It has a "Welcome to WDW" sign as you enter the gate. Just like the front just smaller. It's four lanes coming in and going out. It is a brand new road. No more going thru all that traffic.

The Visitor Center in Ocala is closed. I'm pretty sure it's been sold as well.

Not sure on the Road.

New road access to Disney to open
Christopher Boyd | Beth Kassab and Scott Powers, Sentinel Staff Writers

Western Way, the new rear entrance to Walt Disney World from the new Western Beltway expressway, is set to open April 4.

The four-lane, divided boulevard will give Disney a western entrance for the first time, allowing tourists coming in via Interstate 75 to enter Central Florida on Florida's Turnpike and the Western Beltway (State Road 429), then enter Disney without ever entering Orlando or driving on Interstate 4.

The Western Beltway opened between Winter Garden and U.S. Highway 192 in Osceola County in December.

The new Disney road will come off the expressway at an interchange built by Florida's Turnpike Enterprise near Hartzog Road. Western Way will go east into Disney property, then turn south and connect with West Buena Vista Drive not far from Blizzard Beach and Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Florida's Turnpike Enterprise expects to erect signs on the turnpike and State Road 429 directing people along the new route to Disney, turnpike spokeswoman Christa Deason said. Disney also is expected to do some advertising of the new route.

We for the most part have always planned on arriving and then doing nothing the rest of the day. We do usually hit Downtown Disney though. That sounds like a very long day you are having there.

We do the same thing. We never hit a park on the day of check in, and we checked in at noon on our last trip. We just use the rest of the day to de-compress from the flight, get settled and just soak in all that Disney atmosphere! (We always stay on site, so the Disney Magic is always there - even when we're not in a park.) :D
