I worked at a Dinner Theatre in high school and they did that play. It was amazing i loved every minute of it. And on the closing night Dale Wasserman the man who wrote it showed up for the show. He was such a kind and amazing man.

The Sound of Music has always been my favorite musical, with Singin' in the Rain coming in at a close second.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but The Wiz! Love all the NYC references and you can't beat Diana Ross and Michael Jackson (back when he was relatively normal!).

I didn't know he was even the Scarecrow until someone pointed it out to me.

I saw Sound of Music for the first time a few months ago, and now I'm in love with so many of the songs. Now I understand why everyone raised their eyebrow in disbelief when I said I've never seen it. It's such a classic.

Also another nod to Man of La Mancha. My friend took part of a college production of the musical, and right afterwards I bought the album....the new one with Brian Stokes Mitchell.

And the blackest 'art wears the broadest smile."

Oh, and "Welcome Home."

Did anyone see the "The Woman in White"? I just found out it was taken of of broadway months ago and was wondering why. It had less than a year's worth of performances. Was it the music? the acting? the story? Andrew Lloyd Webber's productions are usually phenomonal.

I know the lyrics to all of the Rent and Chicago songs, but they are more recent musicals. I think Singing in the Rain is the classic best musical, although the "Gotta Dance" sequence in the middle of the movie is oddly-placed.

We just saw Spamalot in Houston and I have to say it was Awesome!!!
I would love to see The Lion King and Phantom again.
Wicked was alright, but probably not one of my favorites, wasn't a big fan of Les Mis either.

My favorite as a child was 1776, i've only seen to movie, but would love to see it on stage. It's classic.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

Has anybody been to see Mary Poppins? I just got the cd and a lot of the music I find to be better than the original movie. I'm just wondering whether it's worth the cash to buy tickets and catch a train to NYC.

If there's no theater-specific effects (ie. a giant chandelier falling from the ceiling or pride-rock rising from the floor) do you think a local theater performance would be almost as good and worth the wait?

edit: Also, is anyone going/did anybody go the Little Mermaid premiere today?

Yes, I've been to see Mary Poppins, and yes, it's positively worth the cash. It is quite different from the original movie, but that's a good thing because it doesn't even try to compete with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.

There are theatre specific effects that I doubt will be brought to a local theatre unless they actually take the show on tour.

::SPOILERS:: Mary Poppins does fly out and over the audience at the end of the show. There is a magnificent effect where Bert actually climbs up the wall and walks across the ceiling in Step in Time. The Banks' house was open to the audience like a huge doll house with detail and movement that wouldn't be replicated elsewhere.::END SPOILERS::

Anyhow, I would highly recommend it!! I hear that all seats in the house are actually fairly good, so you could potentailly get cheap tickets that way. Phew, what a long post. Mary Poppins now my mom's favorite movie and musical of all time!
