how many times do you have to go for the AP to start paying for itself? I just wouldn't want to spend the money if I can only make it down once during the time the AP is good...

A good rule of thumb is 10 days. BUT! For those who can obtain a resort discount during their stay it is often very economical to purchase one AP for the party (has to be an adult) to get the discount on the resort which more than offsets the additional cost of the AP.
For instance, we are saving $75/night for a 6 night stay in December at the Polynesian by using the AP discount. That right there would make a one week trip worth buying the AP.

we sure do...i don't think we'll get one every year. only the years where we'll go more than once...since we typically don't stay for more than 7-8 days. i think it is only cost effective if you need park tickets for 10+ days w/in 1 year (not calendar year, 1 year from date of first usage). btw, i think there is a discount to renew your annual pass.

We live in Houston and get APs whenver we need to. The main reason is because it gives us an excuse to go again. I've gone 4 seperate weeks on one pass. This next year, we'll have about 4 weeks total that we'll go so it's totally worth the AP.
People ask how I can afford to go all the time. I just tell them that we don't spend our money anywhere else.

I have a DEluxe. I plan to renew it FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!
Whenever I visit DLR, I see thousands of people with AP's. This is due to the fact that DLR's visitors are mostly locals, while WDW's vistiors are mostly tourists. I have never been to WDW, so I don't know much about the second claim. But I do think that the first one is completley correct.

My family and I all have annual passes. We live about 6 hours from the World and I like to take small trips over a long weekend. It helps to really get away from the stress of work. Just pack and go without having to worry about a ticket, and usually I don't have trouble getting a reservation. Plus the discounts on tours reservations and other things are pretty good.

We get the annual pass also. We go twice within the use year as to get the most for my money. I don't renew the annual pass till I know when I'll be able to arrange for vactions to fall within that time slot. Maybe from Christmas to Thanksgiving or from summer to summer etc.. (We belong to the DVC also.) It is a bit expensive when first buying the tickets, but the next time we go, I only have to save for food and souvenirs.
If you have an AP, which park is it to? I have one for Disneyland.
