Thanks Joe90!!! I'm looking forward to taking it all in. I can't stand to carry things, so won't have my camera with me for the 1/2 but intend to take it with me for the 5K. I will just be walking that one for sure, don't think it's a good idea to run before the big one with the way I've been feeling.

Although, yesterday when I ran, I felt pretty darn good! Hoping to feel like that on race morning!!!!

Good luck to all!!! ENJOY!

I'm really nervous! I didn't know all that about "throw-away" clothes and such... now I don't know what I'm going to do! I don't have any "throw-aways!"
On another note: the other reason I'm really worried is that I've been sick for most of the last two months. Respiratory infections and so forth... chronic bronchitis as a result... something I've dealt with off and on to a certain extent for years, actually... so I haven't been able to run much at all in the last two months! I know I'm only doing the measly 5K, but still... I would like to have done well, but now I don't know how it's going to be! I'm still not over the latest "cold", and my lungs are wheezing and coughing just in normal day-to-day life. I'm hoping and praying that over the next 5 days leading up to the run that I'll get well enough to at least get some running time in before the actual race, but I don't know. We're arriving at WDW Tuesday morning, so I'll do my best to get some exercise in the parks. Here's hoping for the best!

Mousekedude. A good run is one you finish. Forget the time. 8-)

There will be lots of people walking and I doubt the sweepers are all that enthusiastic on a 5k as long as you keep moving.
Plod onwards, run/jog/walk as necessary to stay ahead of them.

If you are not ready by now training hard at this point isn't going to help any. In fact quite the opposite.
For half and full marathons you should be tapering down the training I guess the same is true for a 5k.
Go walk a mile, see how it goes. You will probably be just fine. Check you can do it in 16 minutes or so. (Pace required for the Disney runs.) If you can finish a mile in good shape now, you will finish the 5k.

Nerves are good. All those endorphins and adrenalin, thats going to help right :)
5k is 3.1 miles, you probably walk further than that on an average day at the parks anyway.

You CAN do this. BELIEVE.

I have also been suffering with breathing problems this year so I sympathies fully. Since I returned from my Goofy trip I have really struggled with any training. (This getting old thing really sucks :( ) I still managed to complete a half in September. OK a full hour slower than last year, but I completed it. (Finish = good remember 8-) )

I tell myself that I'm starting to get ready for another Goofy. 2014 perhaps. or 15, 16 whenever..

Edit: You don't have to throw stuff away :) It looks like the weather will be OK so carry the black bin liner in case of showers. (remember to cut holes for head and arms BEFORE you leave the house  ) Throwing bin liners away isn't a problem.
I wear a sweatshirt on some training runs and tie it around my waist if it gets a little warm. No real issues.

Once again you have some very sage advice Joe! You make a very good point on the distance of the 5K being less than what you would walk in the parks anyhow. And a 16 minute mile isn't much beyond a casual stroll. Heck, you even have me thinking I should try one of those myself in 2014, 15 or 16 whatever ;)
I would think your breathing might be better in Florida. The air should still have a little humidity, even that early in the morning, which should make it easier to take in than super dry air??
I think you all will have a great time :D

Any chance of setting up a meeting time and place before the 5k and the half? Maybe for some quick introductions and a photo (although I know that I will not be carrying a camara). I don't think that we have anyone in the group running the full, do we?

I found a disposable camera that I am going to take along...I know it wont take the best pics, but its light and I wont mind carrying it for 13 miles. Plus it will at least give me some memories from along the way.
We really need to see if we can get a group photo before the race. Might be too hard to pull off.. :(

You are quite talented Joe90, my friend...I am now singing this ditty in my head...thanks... :? ;)

If we can get ourselves up and about early enough, we'll be out there cheering everyone on...but we don't get in until late Thursday night so I'm not sure we will be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 4:30am

The new digital cameras are quite small and pretty light. I don't know if they are in anyone's budget or perhaps you already own one or not. You could always ask someone to snap your photo and send it to you via email. I bet they will have photopass photographers out there as well, but then you are talking some serious money for photographs

Yeah, that is pretty early to be up and try to be perky  Hopefully you can maybe catch a few people along the route somewhere though!

While it's still unknown if we will be up early enough to cheer them on, I will definitely be leaving the cheerleader outfit at home  But I do plan to bring the CHI in case any mayhem gets out of control!

Sheesh ~ talk about a fair-weather cheerleader  Don't you know you are supposed to put those leggings or sweats on underneath your short, short skirt and keep on a'cheerin'?!? ;)
Ooooo! The CHI is going to WDW?!?! Pictures please! I'm sure it will be getting a workout with the group that will be there  ;)
