I might have missed the window on this one, but there is a ton of information regarding Walt's creation of Disneyland where he explains that the whole idea of the park came from what he saw at crappy amusement parks.

Kids would do kiddie things, while parents sat on park benches, bored out of their skulls. He built Disneyland as a place where a family could have fun together. (Thus my rage whenever things with an overly-specific demographic are thoughtlessly strewn across WDW.)

Anyway, from the point of creation, the whole idea was to create a park that appealed to adults as well as children.

Given my specific bent, I'd write something like:

While it is commonly believed that Walt Disney championed bland and insubstantial entertainment, in reality, he was on the cutting edge of culture, art, and technology as evidenced by 1. the groundwork he laid for the American space program, 2. his numerous artistic and technological innovations (including the feature length cartoon, the nature documentary, the theme park, etc.), and 3. his respect for art and artists and the legacy he took care to put in place to support the arts.

Eh, that sentence is an organizational mess, but now it's starting to feel like homework for me, so I'm going to bail out.

Anyway, this is my #1 Disney pet peeve, and when I try to explain it to people, they look at me as if I'm a deranged cult member trying to convert them to some obviously bogus way of thinking.
