It is on the original artwork for the park. I have an Animal Kingdom T-Shirt from 1998 that shows 4 animals on it and one of them is a dragon with wings. It never made it for the opening though. I think that is the direction they go.
Yea, I know the t-shirt of which you speak. My cousin got it years ago and I always envied him for having something from the park opening.

I would personally like the addition of a "beastly kingdom" just for attractions sake. There are so many opportunities to explore with that. Although, for all the animal lovers out there, I could see the addition of an Australia land working as well. It's a toss up, really. When/if this does come to fruition, I trust Disney to make the right choice.

Antarctica is another one that I would love to see. Can you just imagine the way Disney would put something like this together?! :mickey3:

Penguins don't live in the north, they live in the Southern Hemisphere (including Antarctica). There are plenty of marine mammals, fish, invertebrates, and other birds that live in Antarctica as well.

I have a stuffed animal from my first visit to AK and the tag on it (back when they had fancy lil' leather/pleather tags) has the dragon on it, in the row of animals in the logo. I remember being excited at the time at the prospect of them adding a mythical animals area to the park.

Obviously that sorta requires animatronics rather than live animals (though if any company's going to corral some unicorns and whatnot to put on display, my money's on Disney..), but I still think it'd be an interesting addition. I'd also prefer to see it as the original concept of the 'Beastly Kingdom', which was like this as part of AK and dealing with beasts of the animal variety, rather than a 5th gate/villains park.

If they went in the direction of another region of animals, though, I think Australia is probably the best fit. Lots of unique/interesting animals to see and enough climatic similarity that they could let them walk around outside some of the time (as opposed to an Antarctic area that I would think would probably need to be predominantly inside, and out of the hot Florida sun ... though if they wanted to undertake to do such a thing they could probably make a pretty neat environment for the animals).

They should have some penguins somewhere, though. Just because they're cool. 8-)

You can see a few of leftovers from "Beastly Kingdom" the logo still has a dragon in it, there is a parking area called "unicorn". I've always heard it got canned for "cost cutting" and it was too much like something over at Universal.

It would seem that we would all like to see an AK "World Showcase"
This wasn't the intention for AK however I am sure that with a little planning it would be possible.

I read on Jim Hill that they are trying to revive the idea for Beastly Kingdom, but having it character based. I wonder on who...

I like the Australia and Antarctica ideas too!

I'd like to see Naria involved if they do a Beastly Kingdom because that could be amazing.

It would also be fantastic if they had pandas! That is what Asia needs right now.

Another thought for Asia or the Beastly Kindom is a Mulan ride (Mushu being the mythical creature). I could be partial because I love Mulan, but seems like a good location for me!

I've heard so many rumours over the last year or two about the AK. Unfortunately, I don't believe that any will come true (at least not in the near future).

I'm with other posters in that I would rather see them add another continent instead of "mythical" creatures.

I don't see where that would be a conflict with World Showcase. I too would like to see an Australian area at the AK with an "outback" area.
