I'm curious to see what they're actually going to put in that theater they're building in DCA.

You mean the carthay replica? I thought it was going to be empty but apparently it is slated to be a high end table service or cafe.

It would be nice if they did what they do in the Main Street Cinema and play more old Disney cartoons.

Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
The latest swirl of rumors has the carthay turning into a restaurant of some sorts. Should be interesting. I don't believe any of this until Disney confirms it with a full release in the parks blog or somewhere else. I do think that it will be more than just a shell.Wizzard419 wrote:You mean the carthay replica? I thought it was going to be empty but apparently it is slated to be a high end table service or cafe.

Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
I'm still leaning towards shell/storage myself or possible entry/exit for a show done in front, it's way too small to be a ride (if you look at it on google maps you can see the area butts up against It's tough to be a bug and it doesn't appear to be extending very far into the former sunshine plaza). Considering it's the entry area rather, they want to draw people in and then deeper into the park, just like main street.

No way it can't still be a shop?

It could be but they are already over saturated as it is with a toy store and their own version of the emporium as well as the other clothing store just beyond the entry for HPB.

I'm not sure Disney believes there could ever be too many shops!!Wizzard419 wrote:It could be but they are already over saturated as it is with a toy store and their own version of the emporium as well as the other clothing store just beyond the entry for HPB.

It's not like they don't love to over-saturate with shops - look at EPCOT World Showcase or MK Main Street. Shops, shops, and more shops...Wizzard419 wrote:It could be but they are already over saturated as it is with a toy store and their own version of the emporium as well as the other clothing store just beyond the entry for HPB.

Yes, they have stores scattered all over the park, but they don't front load the parks (other than the Disneylands/MK and sort of DHS). I am guessing someone found that the more contemporary guest isn't as keen on hitting a wall of merch stores when they come in.

Re: DCA Gets A Worthy Overhaul Budget
I think Disney always loves to have lots of shops at the entrance/exits of the park. It's one of the smartest places to put the shops as they can lure you in to spend money upon exiting the park. Everybody has to walk past those shops twice in the park so the odds are they will get tempted into buying something.mindflipper wrote:It's not like they don't love to over-saturate with shops - look at EPCOT World Showcase or MK Main Street. As for WS, all of the countries do sell different things, so it's not too bad with over-saturation. Main Street does hit you hard.
I'm actually wondering now if this would be a shop similar to the Crossroads at DHS. The entrance for both parks will now be similar so it could make sense.

...especially if you can remember far back when Main Street used to have non-shop areas like the Penny Arcade. The other "attractions" on MS have been moved out and replaced with shops over the years. Who on here remembers when MS had a magic shop?Len90 wrote:As for WS, all of the countries do sell different things, so it's not too bad with over-saturation. Main Street does hit you hard.

At Epcot (both entrances) and AK they don't front load, I think you can't see more than 1 shop from any entry point. It may have a lot to do with being able to put it in with theme. When they do it at the other parks it's themed to be "Main Street", "Union Station", "Hollywood Studio/soundstage", etc.Len90 wrote:mindflipper wrote:
