WDW rides missing the Christmas theme

Post by viking245 » Jan Tue 06, 2009 6:51 pm

We went to WDW over Christmas and disappointingly did not get to see It's a Small World and Haunted Mansion dressed in the Holiday spirit.

Is this a DL thing only? Cost savings?

Regardless, we (10 total) had a wonderful 9 day visit to the 4 parks, one World.

WDW has never done Haunted Mansion Holiday. It's only done at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland. it's a small world Holiday is done in Disneyland, Disneyland Resort Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland Resort. that, too, has not been done at WDW.

in fact, the only attraction at WDW that had the holiday overlay was the Country Bear Jamboree, but that has not been performed since 2005.

WDW mostly just does special attractions/shows for the holidays, i.e. MVMCP (or whatever it is), the candlelight processional, etc. They also just decorate everything.

The Osbourne Family lights in DHS can be added to that list of shows.

An interesting topic. We went to DLRP over the Christmas season and whilst mainstreet, the castle and most of the restaurants were Christmas themed the rides were not at all. It was also interesting to see that most of the Christmas Trees in the park didn't have any lights on them, just decorations.

All in all though, we had a great time and the parades were very good. No fireworks though :(

I know that the reason that they don't do the Haunted Mansion holiday is purely a guest relations consideration. From my understanding, since there really isn't a "slow" season anymore at Disney World, there isn't a great time to take the ride down for a couple of weeks while they get it ready (since nothing can be done to it until Halloween is over). Many guests would get upset if one of the biggest attractions was down when they were on vacation there, so they just leave it alone. I don't know if this is also true for IASW, but it would make sense if the budget or time isn't the main factor.

That interesting spodie. I would love to know when the put up the decks and take them down. I suppose they must do it at night time.

I'm pretty sure all of the decorations are done at night. I think it was on one of the shows they do on the Travel Channel. B/c we've been to the parks around the holidays, and one day there's nothing and then the next day when we return to the parks, it's completely Halloween or Christmas! It's like they have little elves there working around the clock. :D

The "parties" that WDW does are fantastic, we've been to both MNSSHP (2 x's) and MVMCP (3x's) and LOVED them both! Well worth the extra ticket price.

DL doesn't do these?! I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to DL, I'm trying to learn more!

You are correct about that.... Somebody has to make the magic happen!

I thought all the Christmas decorations were great. My son didn't like that there was Christmas music playing everywhere. He missed all the regular, ambient music of the parks.

I wish they still did the Country Bears Christmas show.

The decorations are definitely done at night, as the CMs told us last time we were there (during decorating season).

There are no holiday overlays at all in WDW. (Since they don't do the CBJ overlay). Despite what I have heard about it, I am not sure I would like the HM overlay from DL. I think the Small World one would be cute, though.

From what my sisters have said, there isn't a time that the parks are not full of people. At night there are crews that come in and do minor repairs/maintenance/painting, etc. There is also a more extensive cleaning done at night, as well as restocking the stores.
