A quick look at the PlayOn forum on themediamall.com website doesn't show anyone using the Dish DVR for this. It is only possible through DirecTV because they are beta testing a networked media share service. It ties your receiver into your home network. I read that the new Dish DVR will eventually have this capability but not yet.

I've been using Netflix for a few years now and I love it. I watch so much more movies now ever since I've subscribed with them. It's come to a point that I wait anxiously for new movies to come out since I have seen them all. I would never do that if I always went to the video store. And the price for Netflix can't be beat.

One more thing...I can now watch some movies on my Xbox 360 that are streamed from Netflix. I have been watching older movies and things I have missed, and it instantly starts up when I select them. I think the instant movie selection is pretty impressive and they are always adding movies and television shows. So convenient.

Considering that Vizio just showed off some new TV's at CES that can stream your netflix movies directly netflix will really be pushing the downloadable content. And peripherals such as the Slingbox's, AppleTV's, etc. will eventually go the way of the VCR and soon to be DVD player.

I watch the older movies on my laptop. It is great. The selection for the watch instant movies has improved greatly over the last year or so.

We've had Netflix for about a year and a half now, and we love it. The DVD's come pretty quickly and there's not much you CAN'T get. I personally really love the Instant Movies...I watch a LOT of TV shows on there. Dick Van Dyke, MI5...it's really great.

Well I can't believe we have had it a month now. And yes I can see the value of a slingbox and xbox for watching instant. But we have configured with some help from people on here how to hook up our computer to our tv so we are watching that way. Does the slingbox have an advantage, like better quality picture? Anyway, Subsonic members are great!

So glad we joined! Both Netflix and Subsonic! hehe...

I was wondering, how good is the quality when you watch the Instant titles from a TV? We watch ours exclusivly on the computer (don't have a TV hookup; just DVD and VHS) and the quality is good, but not great. On some of them, it's pretty bad. I was wondering if that was just a computer problem or is it like that for even TV viewers too?

Quality of:

TV
Video Card
Wire used to connect the two
Signal Strength

I use my TV as my second computer screen. I used an inline S video to RCA convert (about $12) and a RG6 cable I ran. For you Techs, I used a BNC to RCA adapter. I "Y'd" my computer's audio and just connected both video and audio to the same video input on my TV. Total cost, about $20. Total time, about 30 minutes including having one of my boys drag wire under the house.

This sounds like what we are doing. We converted the "S" jack to RCA and ran the headphone plug to the input on the TV along with the converted "S" to RCA so a three way RCA to the TV inputs. Did I make you confused?

The quality is good, the picture is better on the computer at the small view, but the TV is just fine. We get blurbs, but I think that is the computer conection but it is not really that bad. I was wondering the same thing about using the Slingbox, picture quality and such.

My TV has a VGA input, so I just hook my laptop up to the TV to watch the movies. I have noticed that the quality of the videos is dependent on the speed of your connection. When I visit my parents the quality is poor, because they cable provider has a lower speed of internet than mine.

If you are use one those Wall Mart type 3 wire RCA cords, that may be your quality issue. It would also have to do with how far your TV is from your computer. That's the reason I'm using RG6 coax, it's a higher quality cable with very little signal loss. I've read about the Slingbox, but I don't know anyone who is using one. I can't give you much advice on that one.

Be nice! All because we're guys doesn't mean can just automatically just do stuff. I'm not a car guy Don't get me wrong, I know about cars but I do not like to work on them. I'll trade with your DH, I'll do your electronic and computer stuff, he can do my car stuff!
