Gas Shortages??

man, I haven't paid $1.29 for gas since I lived in GA back in 2001 - 2002...

That makes me want to say bad words, we are still paying $1.75 here. It dropped fast, but since it hit the $1.81 mark it has been slow going. I know there are many factors that play in the price of gas, but it just burns my buttons that some areas are paying fifty cents less than I am. Although, on a brighter note and slightly off-topic, milk has gotten cheaper. Now that is almost as good of a sign as cheaper gas.

We were down to $1.44 here in Indiana yesterday and today it's up to $1.77! What the heck?!?!

Same station? I know different stations make their own prices -- as evidenced by one of my previous posts about two stations near each other -- but a 33 cent increase overnight is usually reserved for doomsday predictions of a hurricane in the Gulf.

I SAW A 1 IN FRONT OF THE DECIMAL POINT YESTERDAY!!! For a gallon of regular unleaded, I was $1.98 at one station. My mom saw another station at $1.95. here's hoping that we're down to at least $1.75 by Christmas.

We were down to $1.43 the last couple days, and now today it magically jumped back up to $1.59.

I think the other gas stations saw that there was one station in the area charging $1.59, and they all just followed suit and jacked their prices up too. Bah humbug.

Still not nearly as bad as it's been though, so I shouldn't complain. Just irritating when they do stuff like that.

It amazes me that there is so much excitement about the price of gasoline and so little interest in solving the root problem.

Or I guess it doesn't.

Energy independence is a pretty big political issue for me, actually. I'm an all of the above type person. I want solar, wind, natural gas, clean coal, nuclear, and more drilling in our own territory in the meantime to help bridge the gap to when we're (hopefully) off of oil as a main source of energy.

Becoming energy independent requires a political strength our politicians don't process's. I believe at the prices we are seeing for gas right now, nothing will get done. Don't get me wrong. I love the low gas prices, but we aren't going to see any kind of energy policy change until we the American people are hurting BAD! It's unfortunate but true!

Gas prices have jumped back up to the $1.40 range here also in the last few days.

Well, even when we were hurting bad with prices, nothing was getting done. The point you make about political strength (and guts) is spot on, IMO. It's kind of like the Social Security situation. Everyone talks about it, but no one actually does anything to address the problem. And it too will only get worse.

I think the only thing most politicians truly fear, regardless of their party affiliation, is losing their respective jobs. The issues don't really bother them that much, despite what lip service they may give to any given issue. All about keeping their power.

Of course, I'm a bit of a political cynic, so take my thoughts with that in mind.

I see this fall in gasoline prices as a way to generate more income for the oil companies... how you might wonder.

With prices going down, many Americans will resume their old habbits and purchase large fuel inefficient SUV's that will help cause another surge in demand for oil. With this, the price will once again climb.

As it was pointed out by Donalds1Fan and Jacca5660, the way to cure this is energy interdependence and means of alternative fuels. Unfortunately, the politicians are way too involved with the oil companies to make any changes. So this all lies on the average citizens. We need to make sure we purchase fuel efficient vehicles and try to keep the demand for oil down because the government doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Once again, JMHO and $.02 on this!

well, I can say for one, that I am not about to go out and buy any kind of SUV and start using more gas. I'm happy that I can actually afford a tank on my current car without having to have a bake sale or garage sale to raise the funds (yes, I have had to do this previously at $4.00+ a pop, working outside sales).

The sad thing is that I was just out over the weekend and I saw more than my fair share of SUV's out and about. Granted I was driving a full size van, but that is all I have, and I only drive it but once or twice a month. Public transit is my friend here in Philadelphia, also car pooling. Oh and being a hermit doesn't hurt either.

I wouldn't run out right now and buy another SUV but I currently own a Toyota 4Runner, it's a V6 and it's not horrible on gas. The thing is, it's paid for and in very good shape, I take care of my vehicles! It's cheaper to put gas in that then to have a car payment. My summer car is a V8 Mustang, that's paid for too, I'd never part with that car, it's just a toy now. I wish public transportation was better, I would use that.

I live in a very liberal town, with a major university, one would think that the public transportation system in the town would be better, but it sucks. If you aren't living in a student area it takes an hour+ to take a bus anywhere. I would definitely take the bus to work if it were more convenient. I live two miles from the nearest bus stop, four miles from my office and it would take me (at best) 45 minutes once I get on the bus - I would need to change buses.
