I consider the Rocket Jets that are set up high much different than dumbo. That's what made it cool. I hate Disneyland's Tomorrowland low Astro orbitor!
Me too! Bring back the Rocket Jets! If you are afraid of heights might I suggest visiting Dumbo's Flying Elephants 8)

Yes I was talking about the ones at Disneyland. I don't recall when they closed but it was probably around 1982. It was a slow version of the autopia with only accelerator control. So you just sat on a track pushing down the throttle, or rapidly pushing it and releaseing it to see if you could stall the boat.kgmadorin wrote:Phantom Boats? I know a lot about Walt Disney World history and I don't know of an attraction by this name... could it have been called something else? I know that the Phantom Boats had a short stint at Disneyland in 1955...
It may ave been called something else though.

Me too, the old rocket jets had a wonderful thrill to them. If dumbo came loose you would fly 25 feet.. If a rocket jet got loose I figured I would be lucky if I landed in the lagoon. Thankfully it never happened though.

Ahhh. The luxurious Motor Boat Cruise. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to experience the thrill...Gizmata wrote:Yes I was talking about the ones at Disneyland. I was once in a group where everyone but me fell asleep in the Enchanted Tiki Room. nine of us. Until the thunder came.kgmadorin wrote:You're absolutely right! It's a great place to grab a few zzzz's on a hot day. Just refrain from wearing the headphones and it's perfect... dark, quiet, cool...lovesdisney44 wrote: Drew Carry's Sounds Dangerous was just ok. We tried it once - we were really tired and really hot, and actually took a snooze. Maybe that's why I didn't think it was so bad
If the Imagineers were trying to design the ultimate "nap time" attraction, I don't think they could do much better than Sounds Dangerous!
No, no... He's got a point.

ABSOLUTELY! That show was great. Unfortunately, it was sacrificed in the name of Synergy. darn ABC.AKLRULZ wrote:The pits! What a waste of prime real estate - the old Monster Sound Show with Chevy Chase and Martin Short was soooo much better!kgmadorin wrote:...could Sounds Dangerous starring Drew Carey be included? Though the audio effects are neat, the show is terrible.

Wasn't It Walt that comissioned the ride for Unicef for the 64-65 World's Fair? Do you think he really deserved a labotomy?SysFail wrote:The creator-inventor of IT'S a SMALL WORLD deserves a lobotomy....
2nd would be any other ride that Riscy thinks is cool...

Nice call, rickeisenstein. Walt definitely was the driving force behind that attraction. I don't think anyone would accuse Mary Blair of deserving a labotomy, either.rickeisenstein wrote:Wasn't It Walt that comissioned the ride for Unicef for the 64-65 World's Fair? I don't know... The Sherman Brothers are amazing composers. Remember, they also wrote the music for Carousel of Progress, Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, etc., etc.js3901 wrote:I'd have to say the lobotomy should go to the composer of the song, not so much the attraction itself...
"it's a small world" is one of the best known songs on earth, "after all."
I think there's really more of a cliche "everyone talks about how much they hate this ride, so I will too" than a real dislike of it's a small world. The poll numbers reinforce that fact. Nonetheless, too many roundtrip voyages on "the happiest cruise that ever sailed" can go a long way towards driving me freakin' crazy! Once every few years is more than enough of happiness for me!
