Hmm. The Paris one is called Mission 2. When they "upgraded" that one, they changed all the effects in the ride, and gave it a new soundtrack. Of course, the ride inside the Paris one was already the best of the Space Mountains to start with, so they didn't do any track replacement, etc. They did tweak the launch, though.
It'd be cool if they made the WDW one like the Paris one (launch start instead of lift hill start, inversions, etc): http://www.flickr.com/photos/disneyandy ... 436275327/
I doubt that's what they'll do, though.
Andy.

I would love to see an update to Space Mountain. It has been a great attraction since its opening, but I think it could use some more modernizing. I hope they don't change the queue music though. Also, they don't run the TVs anymore in the part of the line that is near where you get on the attraction itself. They use to run these funny commercials with "Crazy Larry", where he was a used car salesman but he sold rockets instead of cars. Pretty funny stuff.

You know, while I'm certain I'll love the update I hate to see it go. I would love to see updated seating (higher capacity too). I hope it retains a "retro" feel!

i was thinking the same thing....why not just build a new one and leave the old one there? if they want to tear anything down...start with that silly speedway of noxious fumes. laugh of course if you did that someone would complain that they miss them.Cheshire Cat wrote:Now I know how the Disneylander's feel when Disney wants to replace the original version of a ride.
I definitely want updates, but I'm still not sure about an all new ride. I always thought the "Mission:2" title was kind of cheesy too.

I have to admit the outside tunnel in the Paris version looks impressive. I'm not crazy about the gaudy colors though. Thanks for the pics! I too don't like the title Mission 2. Couldn't they just keep the Space Mountain title?

The Paris mountain is different colours to the rest because Paris' park doesn't have a Tomorrowland. Instead, it has Discoveryland, which is more themed to a turn of the century view of the future, taking lots of inspiration from Jules Verne, etc. In fact, Space Mountain (or Discovery Mountain as it was originally to be called) in Paris was based on From the Earth to the Moon.Blackie Pueblo wrote:I have to admit the outside tunnel in the Paris version looks impressive. There's more photos from around Discoveryland on my site here, where you can see how the "odd" coloured Space Mountain does actually fit in with the rest of Discoveryland: http://gallery.andrewpoole.org.uk/thumb ... p?album=64

Right now I wouldn't mind them upgrading the go-karts but I'd hate for them to take them out. My nephew, Age 4, loves those. He has JUST grown tall enough for most everything now. and he loves driving those around.Croaker wrote:=if they want to tear anything down...start with that silly speedway of noxious fumes. laugh of course if you did that someone would complain that they miss them.
He still has to ride with someone, and he isn't tall enough to drive AND push the gas, but it's pretty easy for an adult to do the gas.
I'd love to see them upgrade the cars to something electric.

as of our trip last year (december), they were less "go-karts" than "Bumper Cars". and they make pathway between Tomorrowland and Toontown fairly loud and annoying.jcodirewolf wrote: Right now I wouldn't mind them upgrading the go-karts but I'd hate for them to take them out.

Just personal, but when I rode sm last sept, I felt like I was going to fall out of those darn cars. So, I am all for a rehab.
It was many years since my last visit, and many things looked like it needed sprucing up, just some updating, and I saw plenty of wear and tear.

Agreed; I'm all for the idea of an updated ride (maybe even an updated track that doesn't loosen fillings/cause bruises) but I'm not sure about redoing the whole thing. I like the single-file seating with the 'dueling' tracks.Cheshire Cat wrote:Now I know how the Disneylander's feel when Disney wants to replace the original version of a ride.

I hope redoing it entirely doesn't effect the Peoplemover. I wonder how they will handle the part where it goes inside while they're gutting the place?
