Did you go to Disneyland on opening day? Did you see Walt?

(Seriously, how many of you were even born yet?) LOL My Aunt, Uncle and cousin went to Disneyland in 1957. I was so jealous! I finally made to Disneyland in 1996. What a wonderful day that was for me.

No, but I wonder what it was like also. Though they said opening day was not such a great day for them.

As I said, I wasn't there either. BUT, I sure wish I had been. Despite all that went wrong that day...to have been there opening day. I would have been so young that the problems would have went right over my head. Although, I would have heard my mom complaining. "We drove through the mountains and have been in the car for 4 days. Then I can't find a restroom or water fountain." But, I might have seen Walt Disney in person!! Thanks for responding.

Afraid to say I wasn't even around yet. I would have loved to see Uncle Walt in person though and to experience the magic of the first day. After all, even with all the problems it must have been magical because people returned by the thousands!

It would have been awesome to see Walt on Opening Day, or anytime at all. He died years before I was even born. But I do see remnants of his dream here and there.

I don't think I would have enjoyed the first days though. It was hot, beverages ran out, things were breaking down and it was overcrowded.

But I do wish I got to go on some of the extinct attractions.

I wonder if the people attending on opening day even fathomed how HUGE Disney would become in years to follow. Probably not many.

I'll have to ask my parents when the first time they went. I know they were going on dates to Disneyland before they were married, so it had to have been close to the opening. My dad has said he recalls seeing Walt around the park several times.

Funny story. I was at my parents house last weekend to pick up our daughter who was visiting for the week. My dad had all the old slides out looking at them before the projector broke. I picked up a random slide out a carousel and held it up the the light--it was a picture of the Matterhorn. The next one--Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland. I'm going to have to get something to convert the slides to digital format now!

Oooh, that is too cool!

Think of how different the world was too that Walt could just be "out and about" in his park. I don't think you'd see that today, even if he were still alive, you know? The way the fans are a little crazier now...

I think they're called "Rabid" now... They see a celebrity and run to them to get an autograph/picture. really a shame. Celebrities are just normal people like everyone else, they don't need to be bothered by such people. I'm sure Walt wouldn't have cared too much, were he still here...

I'd have to ask my grandparents if they ever went out to DLR around the opening. They would be the only ones to really remember it, I think...

Heh, my mother and father were toddlers when Disneyland opened... they weren't there, and, obviously, neither was I.

In 1955, my mom was one year old, and my dad wasn't even born yet.

My mother told me that my grandparents loved Disneyland that they even went on Star Tours at their old age. I've never been to Disneyland with my grandparents, but it's a little...comforting? pleasing?... to know that they were there once upon a time.

Wow. Way to make me feel like a little kid. Actually, I think I'm the youngest active member on this site.
