Does Star Tours make Star Wars "Disney"?

in general... the fanboys will always talk, it's like a religion to them, but in general, there is very little talk of LOTR compared to Star Wars and Darth Vader. Unless you count the upcoming non-Jackson Hobbit movie.

It's not necessarily upcoming or Jackon-less. If it's New Line it's Jackson-less. There's not even pre-production talks yet.

And I'm going to completely disagree on LOTR being talked about less than Star Wars. In any culture I've ever been in it's been about the same, even before the movies.

I agree that there should be enough Disney movies to allow imagineers better opportunity to come up with more Disney-themed attraction ideas. Disney is certainly benefiting from the Lucas relationship though.

Will LOTR hype die off? Not too soon, IMO. I don't think it has the same staying power as Star Wars - the films came at a different time and place. LOTR has also had the misfortune of the "soon after theater" DVD release, allowing people to see it easily over and over again. Many of us had to wait years to see films in the original SW trilogy again after they left theaters (although I saw Star Wars 9 times when it was in theatres).

What may be missing for LOTR in 20 years is the "next installment" which breathed new life into the original SW trilogy. The Hobbit may spark more interest again, but not in the same way. 20+ years after the original SW (Episode 4), Phantom Menace introduced the original trilogy to a whole new generation of viewers. Should New Line wait 20 years to release The Hobbit, maybe the same will apply for LOTR.

Regardless, I personally am not opposed to Star Tours changing and staying. To me it has always been a Disney attraction and had a permanent place at MGM.

I will state, though, that I am hopeful we never see a new SW attraction at Disney featuring JarJar...

no, he was not. Walt died in 1966, an the original Star Wars movie wasn't made until 1977, 11 years after he died.
