Do you play a musical instrument?
I've played the saxophone for about eleven years and often request music that involves a sax. A few months back I took up the banjo and ever since I love listening to the Dixie Landings music and pretty much anything else that has the banjo in it. Are there any other instrumentalists out there and do you like to request music with your instrument in it?
Meep meep meep.

Ditto, here. I've always loved ragtime, playing Joplin, James Scott, Joseph Lamb, but also some contemporary composers of rags like William Bolcom and Robin Frost. The Calabrese tracks are excellent, but I wonder if they are synthesized. Does anyone know? They sound like he at least recorded them on an electronic piano.Cheshire Cat wrote:I play piano and I love the Chris Calabrese tracks.
Of course, it goes the other way, too. I also play organ and have played hundreds of weddings. Hence, I hate hearing the Wedding Pavilion tracks.

I play drums and have so for 7 years off and on. The only reason it was off was because I lost the space to setup for about 3 years. They are setup now in my basement and I do play regularly. Sometimes I wish I learned guitar instead for space reasons.

Sad to say, I'm rather talentless in the music department. I feel free to sing along loudly to Christmas songs though!
I did play the recorder in elementary school and taught myself to play a little on the keyboard and guitar. I do enjoy listening to all types of music, especially when it's Disney!
Oh and TQM, I own the ragtime CD from Disneyland and I don't think they were synthesized. I do know for sure that they pianists at the park sound just that amazing!

That's good to know. Maybe through my speakers it just sounds a little tinny.Esmeralda wrote:Oh and TQM, I own the ragtime CD from Disneyland and I don't think they were synthesized. I do know for sure that they pianists at the park sound just that amazing!

What kind of kit do you have? Are you loyal to any type of kit, cymbal, etc.bdinger wrote:I'm a drummer, too, and ended up in a similar situation. I have played for about 10 years but we lived in a duplex home for the past 4 years. This kept me from setting them up and playing. (I'm sure the sound would've carried over to the neighbor's half.) We moved into a single family home about a month ago and I'm looking forward to setting them up and getting back into playing regularly.
I also picked up a guitar last year since I wanted to keep doing something musically. Unfortunately, I never found the time to teach myself to play. Someday...

I took two years of piano in high school. I haven't played in a long time. I'd like to take lessons again, but don't want to make the time. I've found I'm very lazy.

Heheheh... Actually, if you pay for the lessons.. you'll make the time.
I've always wanted to play piano (and I have the hands/long fingers for it too! I've got an onctave +1 reach!). Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity for it.. and don't know how to read music. (Perhaps there are lessons in my OWN future!) At least I have my dance education & years of teaching it. So I can at least FEEL and interact the music.
Do the people playing the music have that same feeling that I get in my stomach/chest when I hear music that "touches" me... You know, the kind that makes you want to cry or laugh...and just have to get up and MOVE to it?
I have always been a little awed at people who COULD play an instrument....

That's cool. You should look into a Pearl Session Select if you want quality at a low price. It is a maple shell kit and has some wicked awesome colors too. That is actually one of the sets I have, I used to work for Sam Ash Music years ago and I had the opportunity to get a new set dealer direct. That is the only reason I have that kit. I'm a Zildjian/Paiste man myself. Working at Scam Cash (that is the nickname employee's give it) I bought a ton of cymbals for cheap. Piece of advice for anyone who wants any instrument, go get a job at a music store for the dealer discounts they are 100% forth it. I would go back but the pay is so low.bdinger wrote:I've had a Pearl Export Series since I started playing the set. I also use Sabian symbols, and typically Pro-Mark sticks. Despite all that, I wouldn't say I'm necessarily loyal to any of these brands. If I really do get back into playing on a regular basis, I'd like to pick up a nicer kit, and I'll check out other brands in addition to Pearl. If I do get a new kit, I'll probably hang on to my Sabian cymbals. As for Pro-Mark sticks... I've switched between them and other brands every now and then.
I have the long fingers too, but I can't move them. I would have to take a year of just finger training (man that sounds badknedeau wrote:I've always wanted to play piano (and I have the hands/long fingers for it too! I've got an octave +1 reach!). I used to play guitar in high school... but that was eons ago.
I got a guitar for christmas last year, but have been to busy to really get into it again.
Maybe that will be my new years resolution!

Im a Trumpet Player at my church
I play the Trumpet in my Church I also sing in the choir and Praise Team.
Ronald E Milner
I sing, but that's about it. I'd like to learn how to play the piano and banjo.
Boyfriend plays the guitar, bass, drums, flute, djembe, yamola (an instrument he made himself), keyboard, and a number of various shakers that sound great in Adventureland-like music. He also has a bunch of pedals to make his instruments sound different and a recorder with a bunch of effects.

I sing, play guitar, bass and can keep a basic rhythm on drums. Oh, and I picked up the mandolin because of playing guitar and bass. I stink at piano. I'm a little jealous of all the piano players. I just picked up the Chris Calabrese CD and was wishing I could play ragtime on piano.
